This guy is fairly honking along... 60 kph...

Looks like it's cold at the start of the video.

Never seen a wetsuit with a screwtop fly!?

i like how he pisses all over his board and gear and is then worried about a bit of dribble at then before re-stacking. my dog pisses all over things like that, i guess we could start a trend and piss on our gear before a session to mark out our territory. or i might just continue to use a permanent marker. nice speed though, i think you would want to be "kooked" up at that speed, especially when you get smacked by a jumping fish, oil tanker or a rock.

I must admit I did have a chuckle when he put his boardies on...

But seriously, why would you include the footage of you urinating on your own gear before the session? I just don't get it...

He has posted a couple of videos on an international kiting forum under the name Tilmann.

He seems somewhat.... eccentric?

He was detailing how he built the P-valve on his wetsuit out of a plastic bottle top - I think I will stick with the standard zipper...

Has he tried boosting at those speeds? Now that would impress me.

Mate and myself were playing at woodman point a few weeks ago using a phone GPS, you can register with www.mapmytracks.com and they give you a free hour logging a month. 60km/hr is actualy no problem with standard equipment and relatively chop free water. The wind must have been about 25-30 knots when we did this.

It takes a long stretch of water to stop, so you need to allow yourself some space

The reading was 74kph at about 3m50s (40kts).

Wristwatch GPS speed runs in WA suggest 70kph is achievable on yer average kite without requiring special gear such as board shorts and a screw top fly, albeit its probably faster than most ppl would want to go.

The kite speed record is ~50kts, but this is an average over a measured distance. Its interesting that it's ONLY 50Kts - meaning yer average kiter is probably able to attain 75% of max possible kite speed without even giving it a thought.

You don't piss in a dry suit, it just pools around your ankles

disagree - at 60km/h at woodies I felt like I was flying and my board was a little unstable - almost vibrating... at 50knots or say 100km/h that is insane... doubt the avge kiter would go near 70km/h even

yeah but you retain that ballast to let you hold down more power - win win until you have to smell what's in your wetsuit...

After close inspection of the video I reckon he's wearing a 2 piece wetsuit and he's spent some time with a plastic surgeon with a sense of humour

Sure would make it easy to hold on during those long sessions if you all you had to do was unscrew the cap and let it flow.

yer i borrowed a gps at altona one day. i got 34.1 knot max. the wind was about 25-29 knots and i was on a 8m torch and a 128cm thorn. i hurts your quads and as i was racing someone i had to stay right between his wake behind him and at one point i hit his wake and i think it was one of the worst stacks i have ever had. i did like 5 flips in about 50cm of water.

thats probably why it is soo hard to get maxed out speeds (like 150km/h) coz if you hit the smallest peice of chop at the wrong angle you will stack sooo badly.
