Hi all,

Heading to Port Douglas and surrounds for two weeks on June 6th. Weigh 95kg, would like to limit it to two kites if possible. Any suggestions. I have a 14/11/8 SLE.

I have heard that the hotter winds are not as powerfull etc. Usually Kite South Coast NSW. So what would the comparison be, 16knots (cold) = 20knots (hot) or is it just a myth.

leave the 8 at home. at 95kg i doubt even your 11 will get a run at port. the wind there definitely lacks grunt

I am 93kg's and generally ride a 13m Rev here in Cairns but at times certainly should be riding an 11m. This time of year will see strong wind warnings issued of 20 to 30 knots as a common occurence (wouldn't know it this week though and the forecast doesn't look good for the rest of this week either.)

Actually leave the 11m at home and it will blow for sure

I would definately leave the 8 at home, 11m could come in handy, you will be predominately riding the 14m. Hope you have a great trip and the wind comes good.

If you are heading to Port, you want to contact Bretto at Windswell. His school/retail is situated on the southern end of 4 mile beach.

The tropical wind will have about 20% less grunt than southern cooler wind in my experience. At 95 kegs you wont be using any small kites. You may get to have a run on the 11m but mostly I reckon you could just get away with the one 14m, in fact, check with Bretto, I think he rents kites, if so, I'd leave the 11m behind so you've got less to drag around with you.

Port haven't had a good season for several years, then again, neither have the rest of us Check out www.windswell.com.au for all the latest and definately call Bretto as he has lived and worked in Port for longer than I have known him.
