Had a Billabong hat, same style for the last 2 seasons, with no problems

They are all similar, mine has a velcro strap rather than a clip under the chin. Just make sure the fabric on the top of the hat is fully UV rated.

I have a never ending supply of caps that I get for free - just pick them up when out off Sandgate/Brighton. Personal best is 3 in one session! Lost my favorite UFC one (which I liked for the irony) on the weekend though - although I'm reconsidering the cap after a jelly got held on my face by the brim. Nasty red welt.

I have the self same FCS bucket hat but thought it was more like $20, must be inflation!

It's been going strong for 3yrs and has faded a bit but otherwise fine. It's not exactly a stylish fashion statement, more an admission of the increasing health concerns of middle age, but I really can't recommend a hat highly enough, and certainly it saves you from an awful lot of face and eye burn and also get less surfers ear issues since I stared wearing a hat as you are protected from that sideways blast of water that hits your ear mid wipe out. The front has stiff brim but the rest is soft, quite compatible with duck diving when surfing, but occasionally the brim bashes you in the central forehead and leaves a bruise.

Here is good tip though. In waves it would always get knocked off when hit from behind by the lip or whitewater, but I found that by tying a string across the back of the neck between the two straps it can never be knocked completely off, hence why this one has lasted 3 yrs. $40 well spent.

It was in the shortboard forum and wondered if they adapted to kiting.They were more concerned about saving the skin cancer over fashion statements.

I do like the top hat idea, you could store several coldies up there!

And, I note a lot more sarcasm in here than the short board forum. Not that I care, but the poleys are always having a go at us about that. Not that I like to visit the poley forum too often (unlike lotofwind), it smells musty in there

Surely they would be good. Can't see why not! If you are worried about the fashion side of it, the baseball cap looks pretty good too. It's cheaper as well. Might not block off as much sunlight though
