After all the bitchin about last weekends cancelled comp I've decided to run a comp at short notice and see if it works. This will be a very basic setup but hopefully some fun will be had. It will be a very social event and the setup will consist of two devisions mens opens and girls just to be fair. I think the Best way to judge this would be by every one there on the day and after sending the top ten riders back out to battle a winner will be made in both devisions.

This will be held on sunday the 17 feb and there will be plenty of drinks in the slingshot mini bus for those over eighteen and soft drink for the kiddies. I've also arranged Dj BICS to come down and play some tunes. Prizes will be a surprise and hopefully we get some wind. Should be a fun day for all so come down wind or no wind

P.s this is going to be a very simple setup so anyone wanting to contribute would be greatly appreciated

Good for you Hookworm, may i suggest a 4pm start, as a local i feel the wind is more likely to be on about then. maybe 3pm meet and greet and a 2pm setup.

#under 16
#open boys (any age)
#open girls (any age)
#big air (any age, but over a buoy closer to the pier, in deeper water about 6pm) after the opens have gone on and finished.

Top 6 is a good number, down to top 3.

I think you may need 3 or 4 judges to make sure you won't get any bom threats (joke)(sort of)(maybe)

Just a thought
I'll be there with my KBV tee shirt on

hey tobes if it all goes well you'll have to come to hookstock 09
hey wind power sounds good we will be there from twelve on ward so we'd appreciate any ideas people have we just want it to be more about fun and gettin to know everyone.

but there will be a winner oh there will be a winner.

P. s Any site sponser who wishes to donate something to give away as prizes would be awesome not real keen on giving a slab of beer to a twelve year old.
i.e t shirts stickers etc this is a super low budget event being organised by one man remember but i'll do my best

hey all everything seems to be on track for sunday but it was suggested if we have a briefing around 2:30 3 ish to see what the wind is doing and find out who is competing. Also I have arranged trophies for the lucky winners.

hopefully we get a good turn out and if you've read this thread and live in melbourne please tell all your mates and tell them to tell theres as we need as many people as we can get if we want to do this again

Anyone wishing to help out with running the event would be awesome and at this stage the only thing we really need is a big out door tent for shade and for the judges to sit under .

Hi hookworm (why do they call you hookworm, whats the story?). Only joking ollie
Sounds like a great idea (kite comp).
P.S. is there a section for mongas, I mean disabilities, ah people that can't ride so well? Ohh just forget it. I will see you down there (hang on where?). I also hear the guys at gnotuk (aspendale) are going to be hard to beat (maybe with a wooden stick.

Just a little update on hookstock thought it would be good if split things up a little. There will be a mens open divis ladies open and juniors (under 16) So there will be 5 trophies up for grabs plus a big air and best crash have also heard there may even be a slider set up. there is no entry fee so make your way down

We now have a tent, bbq and dj organised so massive thanks to everyone helping to make this event happen at short notice

Hope to see you all there

Will spam like i've never spammed before!
Great to see someone stepping up to the plate after the KBV thread. Don't really think i'm competition material but i'll be down there with gear for a kite before hand, and keep camera in hand for HOOKSTOCK.

Also, has anyone noticed how there are easterlies forecast, that is going to pretty gusty, should we have a back up plan to go to altona??

Hookworm: you've never actually mentioned a location.

Can you confirm it will be at St Kilda (with Altona as the backup given Easterlies are forecast)?

I understand a degree of flexibility may be needed given the wind will do whatever it feels like doing and the comp site may have to be relocated to cater for this, but it would be good to give us all a rough idea of what the plan is.

Cheers!

May i suggest 2.30 rego at St Kilda, then decide which location to go to, we can all car pool if wanted, (otherwise people will be running all over town, confused)

I still think the wind will be on about 4pm, SE to S, 15 to 19knots

first of all I'd like to thank everyone who turned up for "HOOKSTOCK" I'd like to also give a big thanks to rob for all the help the bbq was awesome also a big thanks to Chris from kite republic, Julian kidd for helping with the judging, SHQ, Flexy Foil, Slingshot, and also red bull for jumping in at the last minute and a massive thanks to Eze for all the tunes and to all that helped make Hookstock happen.

Just a quick run down of the day, it started a bit slow with not much wind forcast but it slowly came in and the young guy's got straight out the with Ewan Jaspan only twelve and Lincoln Reeves forteen showing the older guy's how its done with there impressive unhooked powerd moves.

When the wind did come up the big guns went out with Peter meyer (kung Fu) and Shane flemming (tapeworm) the stand outs. While kung fu was landing powerd backs to blind and blind judges tape steped it up and started throwing L3's . It was a hard choice but kung fu claimed victory.

Natalie Clarke was the definate stand out in the womens pulling big air in the trying conditions and took out the womens open.

We also had a big air and best crash with the big takin out by Lenny Furlong and the best crash takin out by Cane Osborn

In the juniors the desision was made that both Ewan and Lincoln both got equal first as they were both pushing each other harder and harder. These to young fellers are definatly two to look out for in the future.

Anyway thanks again everyone and look forward to hookstock 09

Well done. I think that would be one of the best ways to hold an event. Make it laid back, kinda last minute sort of thing. And look at how good it turned out. Shows plannign isnt everything. Wonderful idea and well done.

hey wind power its not a hard thing to run an event its making sure everything happens that you plan and i think i was super lucky that the people helping all came through with the goods and everyone had a good time plus we had a pretty good number of people show up. In my previous post I forgot to thank kbv for letting everyone no about it thanks heaps for your help.

Also one thing you have to remember all the people that helped so you can thank them so if i've forgot anyone i'm really sorry but thanks again everyone.
