Oi guys and girls,
Im chasin the best and safest(for the camera) way to attatch my gopro to my kite... Does the rig in the seabreeze shop work or is there a better one out there?
While were here, any tips or techniques to get the best shot would be awesome..
Thanks...

Most of the guys here use the helmet strap mount round the centre strut, but still tie the camera off with a safty line.

my only tip is to use that orange or white rubber nose-peg looking thing.
If you're wondering what its for, it goes into the clip and stops rattling and shaking and it also prevents the quick release "buckle" from coming undone.

there's plenty of tips on youtube. do a search and watch a video from one of the talented stay at home geeks.

A few mates and me just bought one, we also bought a grab bag (just for the j mount), and a line mount. Word of warning the line mount works best with 4 line kites with the centre line y split low, eg cabrinha bars, etc. and is usless for 5 line high splits like the rebel. The line mount is quite lose so we run some split 4mm tubing over the line and the place the mount on that to minimise moving, and then cable tie to the cabrinha centre line swivel.
We made a centre strut mount by cutting two squares off the side of a 2L thickened cream tub (polyprop so strong and flexible)
-Stick the two squares together using double sided tape.
-Drill and Bolt a curved base to the two plastic squares, make sure bolts are on the underside (so kiteside), and use a dremmel to cut off the excess nut thread (slowly and carefully, too fast and the heat will make the plasic melt)
-Cover the bolt heads with a small piece of 4mm self adhesive foam (clark rubber, we had a piece lying around) this will protect the strut and stops it moving.
-We then used the dremmel to rout out two slits about 1.5 cm from the edge, this holds the velcro stap and buckle to attach round the kite.
-we then used the dremmel to take off all the rough edges
-then use the j mount to shoot images down the kite.

all of the bits we found lying round my mates shed, and it took an hour to make, not pretty but does the job. the mount has gone to exmouth so we can take photos and video during expo week, but i'll take photos and add to this post on friday, so you'll have to make do with diagram until then.

GREAT PICTURES...just a thought, but you probably could've used the mount from the packaging box to do this alot easier.

see the bit that the camera is on now, that looks like a thermo plastic and could be shaped and padded to fit a strut.

^^^ yeah we realised that but it is quite brittle, didn't want to risk it on a kite, where as the 2l yogurt bucket is polyprop, soft and flexible. we have saved that as an extra a flat surface mount.

yeah albos i entered the comp under the guise of my 11 year old daughter, who helped with the colouring, thanks katie!!!

quite right.
It should be quite useable as a flat mount somewhere.

Cheers Toddws, solid info. Your diagrams are classic, you should be an architect. Look fwd to seein the photos when you get a chance.. Thanks again,
P.S I have a tip, If you buy the surf gopro and put an f.c.s plug on the deck, dont put it in the centre.(on the stringer)
Install it about 1-2 inches to the left(if your a goofy) or to the right(if you are natural footer) then angle towards the stringer. It will give you a much better shot.
Oh, and if you choose to install the plug yourself, dont overcook your resin/catylist mix hoping for a quick result so you can get out there cos you will warp your plug..
Learn from my mistake and take your time on that one..(dumb, i know but it was windy and i was frothing, you know how it is..)

hey,

I have a go pro surf hero... really good for surfing, but i find when kiting and going over chop the camera starts to move down... so you just have to keep leaning down and bending back and tightening it! but i find the best one if you doing kiting is to get the kite hero which is a Y mount that goes on you front lines... i have cab nomads and i put it straight after the swivel about 2-3 metre from the bar... gives a awesome view! as the strut mount you look tiny and dont have any detail in pics.. this is a close up so you have basically 2 metre window all the way around you... really recommend this product... i brought both my go pro hero and Y mount and spare stick on discs for go pro surf kite from a company in perth... adventure Cams and go pro australia.. both based in perth... other wise the Y mount will have to be ordered from USA so perth is alot closer :P same company has a good editing programe too that is simple to use hollywood something..

I have also used my go pro spear diving and got some awesome shots.. also taking it snowboarding next month so ill tell you how it goes in the snow!!

Hey low stevo, had the same trouble kiting with the camera moving... I found it only happens when you finger tighten the knobby thing... Find your shot angle and grab a phillips head and really wrench it tight as fark, no more problemo...oi..
