Gday Guys,

I've just moved down to Melbourne from Sydney. Inland from Beaumaris and was wondering whether there are any good Kiting spots closer to me than going to Brighton/St Kilda - Looking at google maps it seems Mentone/Parkdale and further south should be good spots, swell is not an issue, basically just looking for somewhere that a few people go and no large rocks that I can come down on and break a leg.

Cheers Guys

Gnotuk ave Aspendale is the ducks nuts! (well I think so). It good for all southerly to westerlys, and on north/westerly you can ride there, but just up the road at edithvale to frankston are also good. Gnotuk is also good for the fact you can park at the launch area (so to keep an eye on your gear). The locals that ride here are a great bunch of guys and will always lend a hand, (just watch out the guys that kite here, they are good, damn good)
See you soon (Laurie, white subaru wagon)

sweet as guys - yeah Brighton seems like its not my scene - I'm used to the 'friendly kiteboarder' so I'm keen to meet the locals from further south. Ricketts point looks a little to rocky for my liking but its good to get a thumbs up on Parkdale and beyond.

Seeya on the water guys.

Ricketts is nice in a SE, not many spots that side you can kite a SE. If you can get over the rocky launch (not as scary as it looks) its beautiful although the windsurfers sometimes head there in droves so you'll be playing dodgem with them. Hampton is pretty good and a lot quieter than Brighton.

If you are prepared to travel a little more, or working in the city and want a spot on the way home, Port Melbourne and South Melbourne are much quieter and the launches are free from obstacles. There are plenty of spots along this stretch with about 5-6 kiters per spot, most live nearby and are friendly (nobody wants to **** on their own doorstep by picking fights with people they live near). Wind is normally cross on with some waves so not suited for beginners (who will battle to stay upwind) but any intermediate rider would have no problems with the conditions.
