Hola peeps!

Anyone with one of these GoPros, tell me what you like, what you don't like, what you recommend???

Obviously, the Hero5 black is "better", has more features etc, but is there too much data to sort through after a session?? Also, does the voice control work when kiting???

Thanks!! Happy kiting!!

There is nothing on the market that competes with the GP5 Hero. I have 2 plus the session 5 and sold all my other GP's. I use the Session 5 on my kite lines and mounted on foils. Voice control works but pretty hard to see if activated when mounted on your kite lines. So just push record and kite and scream out take photo while it's videoing, that way you loose nothing.

Why pay $500 when you can pay under $100 and get the same quality? or near enough?

Im still learning my hero 5 black, but i bought the remote control, around $100 and find that is great, you just record the good bits. Its easy to check if recording or not, or just take photos.
makes the editing process hugely faster.

Is the run cam 3 water proof or do you need a casing?

I have smashed 3 go pros and they are $$$$$

I recently purchased a THIeye t5e for $180 online. Has native 4k.

After a very thorough market research of the market I find the Thieye t5e the absolute best value option for the price.

It has Ambarella processor and same sensor as GoPro Hero 5 Black (that is the same as the Hero 4) and exactly same resolution possibilities for 4K, 2.5K, 1080p and 720p.

This new model I got has a 2.5mm ext. mic. slot!

I use 1080 more than 4k, because my slow laptop doesn't like it, plus 4k uses way too much space.

No post production. Ugly bugger I know.

I spend days researching a good knock-off alternaitve but ended up buying a Hero 5 Session mainly because I got it for a steal and therefore was barely more expensive than the knock-offs anyway. I don't really see the point of spending more money on the Hero 5 just for a few extra features.
Also I find the big gopros too nerdy. Much prefer the smaller form factor and the lighter weight. IQ is pretty much on par anyway. It's also got image stabilization which is a big help.
I took my session snowboarding, snorkeling, surfing and kite surfing but I don't find the voice commands work very well when there is wind noise around. You end up looking like an idiot shouting at your gopro so I stopped using the voice commands and just press the record button.

I find editing a real pain though even with the gopro apps.

Gday, thanks for yr post. This looks pretty good. Does is fit in the third party made line mounts, strut mounts etc made for Gopro? How and where are you mounting it?

Yes all the mounts for the Thi eye are the same as the go pro

Most, if not all brands share the same mounts.

For my kite lines I have made a mount out of the flat packaging that came with my first go pro. I cut the plastic into a small square and drilled some holes in each corner for small cable ties.

I also use a yellow go pro floaty handle for digging into the sand. It's easy to point and shoot with the yellow floaty.

Also if it falls in the water you have a better chance
of finding it.

Go pro still make the best/ hardy mounts.

With the Thi eye, it's a bit
more effort getting replacement housings. Just had to buy two direct
from China. Took a bit more effort than just going down to JB HIFI.

(I paid $39 USD for 2 water proof housings including postage) so yeah more difficult getting product- but 50% of the price.

That's where I purchased my camera from.

Expect a bit of a wait (3/4 weeks) as they are not quick on postage.

More than 50%, I think the Hero 5 black is @ 470 odd, and is nice kit but cant justify the diff for my amateur needs.

lets see I guess. Why you having to replace housings all the time. Breakages I guess but 2 at once seems high?

thanks for the feedback!

ekon H9 from dx.com. 60fps at 1080 and is 70$ AUD delivered to Perth, also includes a screen and replacement batteries available.

in terms of quality its similiar to the Hero3+ but miles from the Hero 5.
