I just got back on Sunday from Gelebara Kite Camp, and it`s outstanding for a budget, fully lit kiting experience!

.A huge sandy bottomed playground, being a sandbar fringed by reef about a km or so offshore, and a sandy spit to keep the water flat upwind.Local Papuans provide boat support when required, watched over by the camp`s manager,Mark,a talented kiteboarder himself(a good bloke too).Fresh seafood can be bought from the villagers as they amble on by in the mornings, educating us on the latest catch of the day.We had deep fried squid on a couple of nights-delicious!The winds were strong every day, reaching 25-30 kts and mostly steady, but uncharacteristically cross-offshore while we were there. We`re told it`s normally cross-shore to cross-onshore.Our party ranged from very experienced wakestyle kiters, through intermediate to beginner, and we all managed to kite every day, thanks to the right equipment, and a safe location. There are other locations nearby for kiters who need waves(Hula),and Taurama Beach near Moresby is good when it`s too windy elsewhere. It definitely should be on your list if you want an O/S kite trip not far from home.
