Looking at a new board.

95% flatwater use with a bit of chop in places.
98kg although have run shorter boards in the past (135 SSLunacy).
Looking for something for unhooked stuff straps only and gets goes really well upwind.

I had looked at a SS Asylum although not sold as yet, seems a little solid and orientated towards boots.

Any ideas for me to have a look into appreciated, especially outside of the typical big names.

A lot of people swear by Cardboards. It's a local company that makes great boards for freestyle. I rode a Cardboards Tempo for a long time and found it to be a great upwind board and good in the chop.

The Fifty 50 seems to have a lot of curve around the tips and along the rails which from my understanding inhibits the lift off the water and hence upwind performance.. Is this correct or have I been mistaken?

Forgot about the old Cardboards; had a look then and bit of a toss up between the Pro and the Tempo. From what I can gather the design has not been changed since 2011? Each seem to have a similar outline the tempo just has a lot of channels or concaves which I would have thought helps with grip although sucks power..

Based upon my analysis above the 139 Carboard Pro it shall be..

Anybody ridden one who could can compare its flex and pop characteristics to some 'mainstream' freestyle boards?

to answer your questions, cardboards made significant changes from 2011 to 2012. The tips flex is insane.

I had a 2011 freeride and upgraded to a 2012 last year and they were worlds apart.

+1 for the cardboard tempo
the channels do make it a bit of a power hungry board but it is suprisingly good in chop and super smooth on landings.
definaltly more pop than any of the more freeride boards i have used.
the cardboard FX i think is somewhere in between the tempo and the pro so might be worth a look.
