Just back yesterday from Fiji, Nananu-i-ra, Safari lodge.
A yacht moored on the lee side was getting 38kt gust on his readings.
I retreated from the 7m to sailboarding on sub 5m sails and sub 90L boards for middle part of week.
Not usual Trade winds til Thursday Friday when it settled to the 20-25kt Trades we are used to. Something to do with the weird NZ weather.
Seventh year there, yet to be disappointed. Although now I get more picky with tide and going to my favourite reef spots.
Lucky you .The weird NZ weather (massive low over NZ that hardly moved ,snow in Auckland) had more to do with the 2 weeks of no SE wind from the beginning of August and not the 2 weeks of wind since then . A group of friends of mine were there at that time .unusual that there is a lull this long a real bummer . BTW in my experience of going to Fiji and watching the weather over there for years there are always lulls as the normal progression of highs and lows .so if you are going for 10 days say expect a few days off .It does not blow all of the time . Fiji is a lovely place with lovely people and is not that far away and inexpensive (generally) .I don't think I would be going to Nana Nu i ra for 7 years for the kiting (flat water is not my thing) I have found that the coral coast has some good small to medium waves on the reef (not for the faint hearted) and good waves and wind at Sigatoka rivermouth
