Heading to Fiji (Coral Coast) outrigger from Oct 6th thru Oct 24th. Have done some research and not entirely convinced whether it's worth taking my gear! So if anyone has been there this time of year any advice would be much appreciated. Things to consider - Wind!! Kite size and surfboard vs Twinnie! Thanks guys

Ask the locals, not us. Besides, I've been to Hideaway and Plantations and all they are good at is to take you out anywhere on their boats, but mostly for surfers looking for waves. Hardly a kite surfer around (but this was in Sep 2005. Kiting wasn't even around then!)
take a 12m and surfboard that you can surf and kite on,trades come up mid morning great place
I stayed at the same place a few years back for 7 days in October. I took an 11m and a twin tip but wasn't expecting much at all. I ended up kiting 5 of the 7 days in front of the resort. Turns out the southeasterly tradies are on the money. They kick in just after 10am and last until dusk-ish. There is a dried up creek bed on the eastern side of the resort you can rig up on. There is a wind shadow where you rig up but if you place your kite as close to the waters edge you should be able to launch ok. I wouldn't recommend self launching as the creek bed is razor sharp with coral. I would definitely recommend kiting in reef booties. Self landing is ok if you are experienced and confident. In my experience you could only kite from mid to high tide due to reef exposure. Do the right thing and inform the lifeguards your plans and give the safety flags and any swimmers a wide berth. Look out for my wedding ring (lost it while kiting). Bollocks! Enjoy your trip.

Are there ridable waves on the outside of the reef??
Personally, I think if you are going all that way with your wife and daughter you should forget kiting altogether and spend some quality family time together. Alternatively, you should you should babysit and send your wife shopping with a decent credit facility

G'day Danza, I would say no for rideable waves at the resort. I'm a wave kiter myself but the lagoon looked much more fun to me as it was butter flat. Waves were hitting the reef square on and there were heaps of exposed bombies even at high. I free surfed at the Sigatoka sand dunes instead.

Except on the coral coast there really is no shopping ..... maybe the hotel gift shop
buy her a few cocktails by the pool instead ... may even get a leg over after
