As long as you don't have to release the swivel under load... They don't release easily and pressure on the end makes the jaws hard to open. I use one to bring a topping lift (line that holds the spinnaker pole up) back to the mast when the pole is on the deck and it only is meant to keep the line tidy, not take a load.

However, your set-up looks like a runaway kite waiting-to-happen.

I'm thinking the chicken loop (when released) will wack against the red[arrowed] release,

and set your kite free.

I'd ditch the swivel - unnecessary; you can just lark's head the leash to the bar's safety line. Less bulky, more secure, only a tiny bit of a nuisance.

... always felt that long leashes with bungies in them were good for giving the kite time to drift, so as not to pull hard on the lines etc...

Only downside with a short front release is if your getting dragged down the beach on your chest there's no easy way to punch out as can't get a hand on the release but otherwise looks like a bought one.

I'd trial it progressively starting at 10 knots with someone downwind to catch the kite
Dunno really what is wrong with the current leash length?

Been using those swivels on my leashes for years. No failures yet

That is a forking magic idea my man!! it's right in front of ya instead of behind and backwards under the water when you need to pull it.

If you can't swim,

don't go in the water, dude.

*Any instance when you are further out to sea that you can be bothered to swim back. So you do a self rescue. Self rescue from 800m out to see is a lot safer than ditching the kite and swimming in.

* when you are kiting in a wave location that has cliffs and barnacle encrusted boulders jutting out of the water. A reset and fly back to your launch site is a lot safer than being smashed on the boulders and trying to climb the cliff,

* A location that has a strong rip. Disconnecting from the kite and trying to beat the rip is stupid (if the kite is nicely flagged.). I've done this once took me 30 mins to get out of the rip and back to shore. Keep connected and the kite drags you in.

* Stupidly overpowered. head out to sea a bit ditch to safety wait out the squall while the kite is flagged. reset your kite when the squall passes.

Its so damn easy to connect. No extra leash thingy to get in the way. length is Sweeeeeet.

Overall its great. I'm keeping on for extended testing and its most likely a keeper.
