Someone (???) has previously posted (possibly a year or more ago) about various organisations that may be able to use old, donated kites...have searched but can't seem to find the thread....

If anyone is aware of any groups who might be able to make use of some older (2007 & 2009) inflatables, pls post here or PM me.

That'd be me then Juddy.
Kite Surf SUP runs the only Kite Salvage Yard on the globe (that we know of).
Any old gear thats at trash stage we take-in and strip down to parts rather than adding to landfill.
Parts are carefully catalogued - into disused beer boxes & old buckets etc - so when kiters find that their 3 yr old kite is no longer supported with spare parts we can usually find that elusive bit - or something that will safely cover for it.
All donated parts are handed out for a donation to our charity of the day - currently "Surfrider Perth".
We are also bulk binning the old canopies hoping that one day we'll come up with a great fund raising way of converting the bulk fabric into some worthwhile product.
(anyone in the market for some new/used curtains ????)

Anyone with dis-used gear is encouraged to drop it off rather than litter the verge on pick-up weekend.
Its great to see the faces of kiters who come in fully expecting to find the bit they need unavailable - or wait a month for a special order to arrive - to be handed the bit they need to get them back down the beach same day.

I'll expect a visit shortly Juddy. Thanks in advance.

Here is a few pics of some gear I organised/donatated on a recent trip to some guys up in Hula village, PNG, they have lots of wind, only one person out of about 2 families works for less per hour than you would pay for a latte and it is close to OZ so more of us could/should go there
These young guys have learnt and are teaching other local kids.

Kitepower's kite, rashies and repair kit, My board and harness with some fins from Slingshot, bar and lines from Matt at kite and Sup Newcastle

In The Loop put a thread up on here about 2 years ago
JayP on here lives there and has also been organising some gear through the airush crew up the road from you

A few guys in Hua Hin, Thailand had their old kites made into rain coats, looked pretty cool.

Pat on the back for that, we don't know how good we've got it here, what always amazes me is they havnt got a pot to piss in but have always have a smile on their chops, I might be able to sort a couple of kites out if its still happening

I've donated old kites to the less financially fortunate locals in Brazil, Cape Verde and Morocco. IMO a kite is barely worth selling if its older than 3 or 4 years...

There's a 12 year old boosting on a 16m Rhino in Dakhla right now...

Over the years we have had a number of people & business donate gear and time to teach PNG kiters.

Marvin from intheloop has put in a huge effort & The crew at auswind have sent us kites and parts which have helped a lot.

Recently we have had some really cool visitors who have been very kind and brought up some gear to leave behind. as well as taking time during their holiday to teach and pass on their knowledge.

Initially we had a program run in one of the inner city villages. Every day after school kite and windsurfing lessons. It was extremely successful in keeping kids at school and keeping them out of trouble with drugs alcohol & crime. Unfortunately the fellow running the program passed away and we have not been able to find a suitable replacement.

Now that we have a few PNG riders who can kite at a decent level. we are working hard to take kiting to some of the regional villages outside of port moresby. getting more gear out so more of the kids can participate and we grow the community.

Kitesurfing in PNG at the grassroots level will be an opportunity for papua new guineans to earn a living through tourism and to see the world (we would really like to see one of them quality for rio)

So if you have old gear, i know it will be very much appreciated and it will have a very real and positive impact to PNG kiters.

what we really need are spare valves to keep the older donated kites going. boards too, we have a few guys & girls that are really good at body dragging but no board to go any further.

Donate Kites! How much are you guys earning FFS?!!?
Generally when I buy items worth more than $2,000 I try to sell them before buying new ones!

Haha, yeh some of that donated gear is better than my current quiver! If I tried to donate my old fuels they'd get up me for endangering the locals!
