A good idea too is to get a sliding hook spreader bar for your harness. It makers toeside much easier when you can have the hook on your hip.
Yes something like the Dyna Bar V5? I must admit, this board does intrigue me.I used to ride a full blown Airrush mutant back in 04 or something? Does it plane likea twintip in the directional stance? Did the underground fins stop the catching? How hard is it on the knees - is it soft through the chop? How does it land the other way (used to riding a tt now and land and jump both ways and want to keep at least of that in my arsenal?
Yes, I have a Dyna bar. The Shinn planes like a twin tip and goes up wind really well. The smaller Underground (140s) up front are better than the big ones that come with the board with less chance of catching in the chop. The footpads are really thin though and I do get sore feet after a long session. The board has a fair bit of flex in the tail and mid section which helps in the turns. My knees are OK in chop, you've got to pretend you're skiing moggles and try not to bounce around too much. I've jumped it both ways and it's fine but it's not something I do a lot of.
I've mainly ridden twin tip over the years and I also have a surfboard but I like the Shinn for agressive carving. I broke my foot jumping last year (January '09) when I hit the water a bit too hard so I've given up jumps.
If you want a board for hard carving in small surf or flat water with the ability to ride it backwards out through the break then the Shinn is a good fun unit. You can probably pick up one in the for sale section of Seabreeze from time to time but I know that Kitepower in Sydney has a new one (under $900) at the moment.
If you were in Sydney I'd happily let you try mine.
