Yes I saw a few guys out there yesterday on the way home from work. The suprising thing was that the people kiting there were the ones that went off and abused people a couple of months ago for doing it. It amazes me sometimes

Could be there is a time and place for everything.

I had a look at the web cam yesty,it looked crappy at the beach, onshore and bleak. Not many people around.I can imagine it is a totally diferent picture on a warm Sunday in Summer.

I believe that you should be able to kite anywhere if there is no one around and there is a howling wind.
So,really it comes down to common sense. If there are people around that you may endanger,ie:children playing in shallow water etc.you should give it a miss.

good call user. the poelple who winge too much about the alley should just chill the F@#K out!! most of the kiters who kite there are local guys anyway.these are the guys that have been brought up in the palm beach area since they were kids!! so its a bit weird when someone from the other side of town tells you that you cant even play in your own back yard?? its all about common sense i reckon if theres a big crowd at the alley then its probably better not to kite at the alley, but if theres jack all people on the beach i cant see what the big porblem is. more people should appreciate the buzz you get when you kite and not dwell on something we all know is not going to change!! "people will still kite at the alley",regardless of what is said and done. for the people that rev up about it should just come down and kite and relax a bit.

Maca, was it not true that YOU dropped/smashed your kite on the beach several times this week, did you plan no children/people to be there at that particular time??

You would (or will be after this) realize that the Club in particular Gene went through a lot of loops(no pun intended) and meetings, trying to come to a agreement, so that the authoritys dont ban us from there and possibly other spots. And that is how we came up with 'self regulation'

The prob has always been because no sign was ever placed there, which makes it hard to regulate.

We all said a few years ago that 'if theres a 25kt northerly and no-one on the beach we should still be able to kite there' and everyone at that meeting basically agreed.

See i dont have a prob with guys riding there, dammn id like to go back their myself one day, BUT if the crap hits the fan don't point the finger caus there is no one else to blame.

On a final note, Quote "Chill the F@#K out!! I hope Gene is in a playing mood when you throw that one at him......good luck

Well since Paulio has decided to use my name and there seems to be quite a bit of confusion out there about the Currumbin Estuary it is quite obvious to me that some basic forms of communication and procedures have not been implemented to solve this confusion. Although this is not my job as Paulio is now the president of SEQKA I feel that this matter needs to be clarified.
Yes! There is a self regulation from kiting within the estuary due to the fact that the speed limit is 6 knots. This is south of the 6 knot sign on the rock wall. In most cases when you are on the plain you are travelling over 6 knots.
When I got back from Mambo 2005 QLD Transport had started a report into kitesurfing at Currumbin. This was from a writen complaint from the general public about reckless kitsurfing in the 6knot zone of the Currumbin Estuary. At this time they had already decided to stop any kiting at Currumbin.
I decided to form the SEQKA in a effort to stop us from being banned from kiting the entire area, including the outside section (North of the 6 knot sign) Currumbin point break. So after several meetings with Maritime safety and going over several solutions together we came up with this:
You are allowed to rig & launch your kite on the beach at Currumbin, common sense should be used at all times and you should still follow "CLEAR".
Once your kite is in the sky you are allowed to walk until you’re in line with the 6 knot sign on the rock wall and then enter the water and tack out into the waves.
Now this still may be a bit confusing for some and if you are one of these people, please feel free to contact me and I will provide you with a map of the area with details of the guidelines.
This is also how it reads on the SEQKA website:
Currumbin Alley Estuary Zone This is the flat water estuary area inside the Northern rock wall at Currumbin Alley. Currumbin Alley has Queensland Maritime Transport regulations which apply to the estuary zone. The area is a boating channel and has a 6 knot speed limit for all vessels including kitesurfers. Fines can and may be issued by the water police if you are caught kiting the inside estuary zone exceeding the 6 knot limit.
Since there has been at least 5 written requests for a SEQKA meeting to be held based on this subject it would be nice if the President called one and explained it himself.
Happy kiting, see you on the water.
Regards,
Gene.

Amacha has hit the nail on the head. Most guys who ride there are local guys. They dash back from work and pick the alley cos the last thing after a good ride is to be caught in traffic. The alley has changed shape again and if you camera freaks want to know, what the camera doesnt show you is that there is hardly any water left inside the alley (exp full tide knee deep). So if you flat water guys want to drive all the way from brisbane missing brighton and broadwater, i'd reckon you'll do it just the once. All the guys that kite/live south are soo over this crap. And sorry rr you arent the brightest. Wonder if you drove all the way from brissy to have a one hr kite from 4-5pm (at super low and incoming tide). Important NOTE- always keep an eye downwind if ur trying tricks in the channel (sand and observers). There is so little time to pull up. Saw one busted wrist yesterday. And Yes i do kite the surf side of the alley.

Ge rich you sure have alot to say, look ppl kite through surfers all the time, but isnt that banned as well, so why is currumbin such a hot topic. Look ppl this situation is getting way blowed out. lets stop bitchin about each other and clam down. Lets just use common sense and instead of getting mad lets work together in a postive way. If you have to say somewthing come to the meeting. This topic is now closed so no more postings
If you post anything to do with currumbin and kiting your lines will snap next time you go out[}:)]

I think I may go down and have a little bit of a piddle tonight. there I have sead it I pee in the alley and I'm proud of it. But I only urinate when kiting, out the back. Thank-you that really has been worrying me for ages maybe as far back as one whole yonk. So you could say its my waters.

I believe I know the answer to your equation Paulio its
1.5791580369369626468692454236899
I'm not sure on the LOL Ive got a couple of ideas floating around. Whats most interesting about your post is that if you take your total amount of posts 733 as well as the time and date of the above mentioned__ post 13 08 2007@703 and do this
7 - 3 =4
3 - 1 = 2
3 + 0 x 8 = 24 __ 2 - 4 = -2 x 2 + 0 = 4 + 0 x 7= 28 - 7 = 21__ 2 x 1= 2
0 + 3 = 3 you get the post code for the topic which when multiplied by itself gives you 17833729 a number which also seems to have appeared on this thread
