Hi!
Looking for any solid wave rider guru tips on how I managed to cross over my steering lines - not my centre lines. Turned on a wave badly, gusty conditions, kite dropped in the water, possibly got rolled, inverted, it all happened very quickly. I pulled the centre lines to re invert it and the steering lines were crossed over. They weren't crossed over the centre lines, they were crossed over them selves. So no control what so ever to steer the kite to shore. Self rescue it was. Trying to work out how it happened? One guy on the beach said that basically as soon as I can see the situation/kite is going pear shaped, to pull my safety straight away and may avoid the whole inversion, wait for the kite to sort itself, then hook back in.
Never seen crossed steering lines before, trying to work it out in my head. Thanks :)

Surely all u needed to do was give yr bar a turn 180 degree, or multiple turn for multiple twist. Left line at bar is still attached to left wing of kite and right side same story.
similar event to if you were doing kite loops

What am I possibly missing here?

Yeah, a bit unclear what you mean by back lines crossed over them selves ?

I can visualise how it might have happened, kite turned side on to the front lines. Waves can do almost anything ha! BUT, the steering would have been the same, left would still be left and right was still right. You could have relaunched and headed back to the beach to sort it out.

I managed a good one yesterday going for one last turn in close to the shore where there is a 5 knots sweep, crashed and kite got tumble through the centre lines and then through one steering line, was still flyable though.

That same issue happened on my 2012 REO. I punched out.

Basically one rear line would have done a loop around the kite.

possibly 3 lines were fine and straight (possibly not) and one rear line was wrapped around.

it can often still fly although could be tricky.

to stop it happening in the future, don't drop your kite!!

and like a wise man said above, when a kite gets washed by a wave with slack lines, anything can happen.

Happened to me a few times. Kite is still flyable enuff to get back like this but it can be a bitch to get a relaunch. Need to pull on center lines even more than usual.

It's hard to explain, lines weren't twisted.

Think you nailed it Jono77 with the crossing of the lines. Was a nightmare to try fly. Yep don't drop my bloody kite. Thanks

I relaunched and tried flying it but was super difficult, was like having to steer opposite. But that didn't seem to work either. I was out a good distance, reef, etc. Anyways it's all a learning curve
