He climbed up there.
I don't really see what's so awesome about it, he parachuted off something... wow. Now if he did this off a cliff or something, let go of the kite and then wingsuited down, then maybe I would be impressed.

I woulda been more impressed if he was holding his kite when he jumped then let it go like a real base jumper, none of this pussy Kite already up in the air crap.

How? Did he climb up there while flying his kite in one hand and holding his board in the other. Or did his pump up his kite at the top, roll out the lines and self launch? Pretty impressive either way.

He climbed up there with the kite in the air, I'm pretty sure his board was either carried up before or carried up by someone else for him. Seems like a lot of effort to me.

Since they introduced the rule, like in Belgium, that you cannot kite within 200 m of the shore, we all now have to launch like this in Cape Town.

From our forum:

Apparently the walk up the crane had been insane with big gaps between the metal rods so he had to use the kite to get lift in between some of the gaps - with his board dangling off his leash...

The jump off the crane was witnessed by a number of people from the kiteshop and restaurant across the road there.
