Need your input ... I Just got back from Cocos ( frustrated from lack of wind) so looking for a new kiting destination.
thinking - Cook Islands (Aitataki ) or Mauritius... Open to other suggestions - must be good place for intermediate level..flat shallow waters are a big plus...

To anyone has been to cook Islands - was the wind reliable?Any hassles with the boat ride to kite beach ?
do you need a car? any tips ?

I Don't know a great deal about Mauritius but i hear it could be a good contender.. wondering about suitability to my riding level... Is it shallow flatwater? Would car be required...tips advice please ?

If you live in WA go to Mauritius. If you live on the east coast go to cook islands. Both have heaps of flat water.

I'm in the Cooks - Aitutaki at the moment, wind runs in cycles, we had a good run of 8 days of wind, been a couple of days now without wind but it's due back tomorrow. Definitely need a scooter to get around the island, boats to Honeymoon are easy enough to to get when the conditions are good, on the lighter days you can kite from the main island in front of the Aitutaki Island resort but most people are happy to wait out the lighter days until the stronger trades come back

I'm going to Mauritius in January for a wedding and I know it's the off season for kiting but has anyone actually kited there in January before?

a local hit Mauritius with his family, I stayed in wa, he complained about cost, travel, attitudes, crowds,, glad he went but wouldn't go again, I didn't have anything to complain about, $ 10 per night, a short drive, no attitude, on my own, glad I went and will definately return, look around and youll find, weve a big country with epic spots, stay home exsplore and enjoy the adventure

no place like home, to hit up these exotic places with a family would be $10k easy

Just back from 3 weeks in Mauritius - had a ball at http://www.kiteivalmauritius.com/en/ with local legend Nico Kux taking us to all the top spots around the island - many downwinders (up to 70km covered on GPS). It was a great group of people at Kiteival and we all had a great time on and off the water :-)

Had some awesome waves at Le Morne despite it being crowded at times but we went to many other beautiful lagoons and reef breaks where we were the only ones out. Nico provides a safety boat for all downwinders.

Living is cheap once you get out of the big hotels and the people are friendly.

If you're looking for warm weather destination to escape our winter blues then I'd highly recommend Kiteival as a great way to see Mauritius for any kiter intermediate and above. Next Kiteival is 18 - 27 july 2016! Spots are limited so book early!
