Hm, I've got C with 5 lines.

I believed it's much harder to invert (inside out), a kite with 5 lines, duno why I thought so.

This was the reason for purchase. My previous 4 lines hybrid kite was inverting like hell, hence loosing precious time, rolling lines and walking back.

But first time went out with a C, guess what? Inverted after second drop in drink, even tho was pulling middle line etc...

Having a kite which doesn't invert gives me more time on water, more joy and safety. I mean, my bow 4 lines kites never, ever inverted and riding bows more than 70% of time.

Must be a kite than.
Does C or hybrid or bow or xyz inverts more ?
Does 5 lines inverts the same as 4?
Does bridled inverts more?

My question is not how to solve\prevent inversion. Any kite can invert but which design does it more?

Are you talking hindenberging? Or inverting when crashed?

If its when crashing try pumping harder, a hard kite shouldn't invert ever.
Most inversions are from the kite hitting the water and the rider continuing to ride towards the kite, the lines go slack and the kite rolls over.
If the kite hits the piss slow yourself down and edge away from the kite ASAP

O I love the feeling of a half mood kite recovering 1m from the water, instant hot launch!

Inverting after crashed, trying to relaunch...

Pump hard? Ok, will try that.

However, I was told other big brands invert as well even when hard as rock...

I still think some designs are more prone to inversion than other.

Should fifth line prevent this?

i fly 5 line c kites - new kiteboarding - 4 years or so now - i have 7 of them - i've only ever inverted 1, once.

so i think it is possible, but should be very very rare. The one time it did invert, was doing as troy describes, crashing and riding towards the kite. and it was a small 7m with only 3 struts, which i understand makes it easier to invert.

So your question Any kite can invert but which design does it more?

I think not a 5 line c kite

Been riding fuels since '03 ('03, '04, '07, '08, '09, '10) never inverted any. Only flew the '09's on 5 lines.

i ride fuels on 5 lines (my newest one is 08 though), never had one invert on flat water but plenty of times in the waves. you can fully release the 5th line so it doesn't bow tie when tumbled in the surf.
i reckon a 5th is great for faster relaunch and extra trim when the wind picks up and you get overcooked.
apologies if i repeated anything in the koookforum link- i didn't bother reading it

Saying that I have wrapped my 5th a couple of times but only only in a direct onshore ( I think it was) but when it is cranking and everyone on the beach is waiting for you to self land your 5th line machine so you can help them land their 4 liners - its gold.

Cheers

shouldn't really happen, to be honest i think it's something to do with your flying. As said before, if you crash a kite and keep riding on your board and go towards it the lines will slack and the kite will roll. That's the only reason my kites have ever inverted on me.

Other thing to check is your trimming, how tight is the 5th line? if it's too tight it can cause a bit of an issue too. What kite are you on? most C kites now should be set so that there is just enough tension on the 5th to take up the slack but it should not be carrying a lot of load and be very tight. Check this next time you fly.

... So talking of inverting I had a funny thing happen.

I used to ride a 16m Naish X4 (2004) kite with the original 4 line bar, years ago, loved them back then and it did the damndest thing!

I accidently rode into a well know area where the wind is really gusty and down wind of trees with really disturbed winds, winds all over the place. As I entered the sh!tty wind zone the kite hindenberged and started to fall. As it dropped, quite slowly infact, must have been some sort of wierd layers thing happening and as the kite drifted into another layer of wind, it rotated or somersaulted you could call it, flying into its own front lines.

After somersaulting the kite rolled and caught the wind again and flew back to 12 o'clock. Bar and lines are now inside out, twisted, with me looking dumb founded. Then the kite started to fall again so I tried to run backwards but I was a little too deep in the water to move anywhere, so the kite started to fall again.

The bloody thing did the wierd somersault thing again only going the other way. Bugger me even with slack lines it caught the wind again and the lines tightened so flew back to 12. The bar/lines are now back to normal!

Bugger this, I punched out so the kite fell to the water Totally blown away I couldn't believe what I just saw, if someone else had told me I probably wouldn't believe them to be honest!!!

And no I hadn't been drinking or smoking something or under the influence of drugs .... just a freaky freaky thing. 8 years later and I still haven't seen anything as wierd.

cheers for now,

Robbie
