Live on the Sydney harbor and was thinking of getting a trainer kite and shortening the lines and give a go with my SUP. anybody done this before? Bad idea?
Not all trainer kites are water relaunchable and most don't have depower feature so probably better to buy a small proper kite and make sure you get lessons
f one kites do a dedicated sup kite, its a two line similar to the wipikas of old and with limited wind speeds , as for it being a bore i watched mitu and clan having a ball on the south coast of france, i think the is some footage on you tube
yeh if you google f one kites then choose the source shows a great video of it in action , ill give it a go, ozone zephyr 8 knts , any day is a good day on the water
tried it the other day, not worth it, can only go down wind with a sup, wait for the wind to pick up and go kiteboarding. buy a raceboard if you want to cruise in light conditions.
Or a land board or regular skate board. They work with trainers. Bad reviews on the f1 'SUP' kite. Havent checked for myself but the goss is thats its a dangerous repeat of the old 2 line killers the pioneers used. Check it carefully before going there.
Here I am kiting a SUP. It was somewhat like kiting a barge. Fun for the fact it made my friends on shore piss themselves laughing, but other than that, not very exhilarating.
PS am using a 12m switchblade in some fairly light wind
Sup Kiting is fun if you get a good board, in light winds we took off a back fin as the sup had way too much drag, it went upwind and cruised much better. We managed 2 people one kite on a sup. If your board and want something different and a challenge Kite SUP can be allot of fun if you know what your doing.
Re the dedicated 2 line 17m kite?, has anyone used one? any feedback? In light winds a 12m + kite is fine.
cant sup on a g board in the photos thats ewan and james. Ewan was riding the g board and it was crap. you need a good board with hard rails to go up wind and drive
yo griffin ive used a wipika 16.5 kite cant remember if supping was around then though. ive still got a full quiver of wipikas and take them for a fly now and then, they are still in pretty good condition after all this time
