I was there in August & stayed in Legian which is about 30-40 mins from Nusa Dua where I kited, i took a 13 mtr kite but could have used a 15- 16
the sanua side is a lot quiter than Legian/ Kuta so if you crew is looking to party stay at kuta / legian.
the cost to nusa dua by Taxi is say 50 -60,000 say $15 each way if you get your self a driver "Kijang" special he might charge you 70,000-90,000 each way but wait for you.

also take a bigger board ! take some light booties a few sharp bits depending on where you end up kiting.

oh yeah... as per ianmacs post, sanurs other name is "s nore" in reference to the complete lack of party vibe... (although it has it's moments!). this is not a big problem if you wanna party cos the wind usually doesnt fill in at that time of year until around 1200-1400 anyway, so plenty of time for a sleep in and the 1/2 hr transit from kuta. also expect plenty of euros, although there are some way cool expat aussies kiting over there...

I stayed at the same place as where the photos were taken in August a few years ago. Had about 12 - 18 knots every day, all day. I only used an 18m as it was pre-bow kites back then. It is a perfect flat water spot, too shallow and cross on shore to bother with the waves though. That was a great little resort and the wife loved it too. Highly recommend it for flat water, cruisy riding and great accomodation. I was the only one kiting every day, there is a spot about 800m up the beach which seemed to have more kiters staying at it but it wasn't as nice a spot for actually riding. Just watch out for fishermen wearing black head wraps when the tide is really low.

thanks for all the help.. so judging by the wind it'll prob be late july/early august we're going.. I've got a 12m and 8m Naish Torch.. will that be enough? I weigh about 70kg..

OK let me get some fact straight.....
First of all is Fangio and not Fungio..... or even better F. Fangio....
I weight 70 kilos and I use a flat 12m on a skim board or surfboard... depending on where I ride. A flat 14m for twin tip is better.. 16m if you are a fat ass!
I still own with my wife Kite & Surf Bali, the only kite shop around here but is true that on the beginning of July I passed the kite school to the local Balinese Kitesurfing Team.
Right now Bali Kitesurfing School is 100% owned and managed by locals... and I mean locals as they are from the same Banjar where kite Kite Beach is located "Mertasari".
I do collaborate with them as I take care of the marketing, communications and Internet as they do not really like computer!
Just ask around and I think anyone who has stopped in Bali can confirm that these guys are great not only for teaching but also for riding and for the hospitality.

i was there in july and i was on a 6m and 10m the whole time. i weigh 51 kgs and the wind was 13 minimum to 25+ for a few days. i was out everyday i could and i was super powered most days. its a great spot and all the guys at bali kitesurfing are a huge help especially F. Fangio , komon and kadek. hopefully cya next year in sanur guys.

ok so I have decided to go July, probably the first two weeks of July, that seems to be the best time for wind??

A flat water spot would be nice so any suggestions??? Also good accommodation places that are relatively cheap.. I'm looking at a maximum total of $2000 for the two weeks.. I've found a few places but they all seem to be a bit costly..

Accommodation? Depends upon what you're after-check www.wotif.com for classier stuff-anything else there are so many options.

If you want to stay in Kuta and want cheap basic accom. head down poppies lane 2, down past Tubes bar.
Heaps of cheap rooms,$7 aussie a night includes breakfast.
Some great spots to eat around there as well on the cheap.I use to head to Indo for half a year every year so Knew all the tight ass spots to stay so my $800 dollar a month budget stayed in ballance.
Not sure of the exchange rate these days so might cost a bit more.

Just keep away from dudes walking around the night clubs with backpacks on.BOOOMMMM
