How come all kiteboards have a symetrical plan shape given that you ride them differently on your heelside compared to your toeside? I remember the Jamie Pro had a different flex on each side but that's all. I would think that for big carvy turns off your toeside you'd be better with a sweeping tail not the traditional squared off tail. Any thoughts on this one?

Good question. I don't get it either.

It's been tried with surfboards where there's even more reasons for it to work - backside surfing is completely different to frontside - but its never taken off.

I reckon it's just cause asymetrical boards look so wrong

Haha,

Whats old is new again. The return of the Stonker Shark Assymetrical twintip!

I found an old mag at home Vol. 2 Boarder Mag. Winter edition 2001 so I scanned one of the pages with a pic of the "Shark".

Classic and even funny now that I look back. Who is that good looking young man

Sponsored by Wipika and Stonker, wearing the latest stylish Jet Pilot Pants the rider was able to ride either rail heelside. Short side for when it was nukin, longside for better upwind and nice toeside carves. The dimensions were something like 160/145 from memory. I'm sure Alex from Stonker could correct me.

Good winds,

Yeh that just proves my point. That's one ugly piece of board - but no doubt someone out there could love it

The question is - was it any good?

Hi guys, In our boards we run a stiffer heel side than toe side of the board, it makes perfect sense as you cannot apply near as much pressure to the toe side of a board. Therefore the toe side should be softer to have the same flex pattern as the heel side.
It does'nt make a huge difference, it's just the small things like this that distinguish a good board from a great board

Cheers Dan

Hey guys,

The pants were hip back then

Check out the tricks! A nice deadman in the lower left piccie. We'd only just got into 4 line kites at that stage. It was all two lines before that.

I read the interview now and laugh, it's good to reflect back and not take life too seriously, nobody gets out alive in any case.

Good winds,

In twin tips I prefer assymetry in rocker, and no foam in the flex sections.
