A PERTH Beach has been closed after a dead 15m humpback whale washed ashore overnight, attracting several large sharks to the area.

The carcass washed ashore overnight and massive bite marks were evident down the whale's sides as it lay on Sorrento beach, attracting dozens of interested onlookers early this morning, PerthNow reports.

The City of Joondalup closed the beach this morning after the whale washed up on the beach near the Sorrento Surf Life Saving clubrooms.

The City is liaising with the Department of Conservation and Environment (DEC) on how best to remove the whale from the beach.

The DEC says the whale needs to be wrapped in netting and removed in whole and it is likely an excavator and or a truck will be used to remove the carcass.

Two sharks were seen circling the whale's carcass last night when the whale was first seen offshore.

Is the front through yet?

If so this afternoon should go off... not at any northern beach for me though..

I hope Woodies is far enough away from the sharks!

I took the pole out, but had two good runs and then the wind dropped for half an hour, and sail was the too small. no one else to be seen. beach is fairly narrow still for kiting

didnt see any white pointers.

there was a huge crowd watching the whale being put in the back of a semi. that was one big whale.

fortunately it had been howling nw in the morning blowing the scent south.

I went to check out the whale, and it was pretty big. The thing I wanted to see was the bite marks.
They were HUGE. Blood still seeping out of them. But what was weird is that the bites were the cleanest and smoothest cut you could possibly imagine. I couldn't believe how perfectly neat and tidy the bites were. It's kinda freaky. I remember watching a shark show, and they check out a leg which had been bitten, and the doctor said something like he couldn't make a cut that perfect with a brand new scalpel. And now i believe it.
And boy did it stink. Could smell it from just past Trigg.
