That's not ideal !!!!
I can not see clearly ( watching on iPhone ) is he unconscious ?
Why didn't he pop his safety ( didn't want to lose kite ?)
The guy who kited past to check him was Toby Bauer from Kiteforum.

kiteforum.com/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=2357124&hilit=loopingIt seems he had released onto his kite leash. Maybe the tangle with the other kite had some effect on how much the kite depowered. The rider tried but failed to release his leash and had to take off his waist harness. No-one was hurt, but the rider was dragged under at times.
I have a 2007 Omega which loops when released onto a front line and I've seen a pre-IDS Switchblade do the same when released onto the rear line.
Its hard to answer the original question, but with the kite getting near kids, I would have tried not to go to the leash if I knew the kite looped on the leash and keep the kite nose down to reduce the risk of it taking off. A few years back, a little kid in England was lifted into the air by a kite line and dropped on his head. The picture of the boys bruised face made the front page of a newspaper.
