For those of you who fit in the "uncool" bracket, that are 70-80kgs, and REGULARLY use a 7m kite for kiting in the surf. What brand and model do you use and recommend?

I am after a 7m kite for use in 22-35knots in the surf, it must NOT yank you off your board, can be depowered almost fully, rides unhooked ok and has the power when you crank it.

And it has to be 7m, don't give a **** about 6m, 8m, 6.57m, 8.2m etc....

08 Flexifoil Atom
IMO A great kite, flys nice, great unhooked, easy relaunch.
Definitely worth a ride if you like surfboards and waves
Have only flown 08 Rev 08 Atom and 07 Rebel in 7m kites. All good kites.
IMO Find as many 7m kites as possible and demo/ride them all.

NEW has a 7m that's worth a look in... handles a huge range, turns really fast [gets comments on the beach] and has a top end I'm yet to find despite 35 knot frontal stuff the first time i used it.
all with 5th line and no bridal

Rebel 7m, REV 7m, Flexi Atom2 7m as all work great un-hooked, even croos off or dead cross shore. Rev and Flexi make you want ot un-hook and the rebel work good hooke in or un hooked wave riding. Some aree park and ride, some are loop down the line and others do both, try them and work it out for your method.

Best of fun and smash those waves bro.

Hi Meerkat,

I reckon for surfing, the only way to go is an Airush DNA. I know you said nothing other than a 7m, but the DNA 6m has the same bottom end as a 7m and is particularly well suited to wave riding. It's what I use at every opportunity.

You will probably also like the 7m Airush Flow of 2008.

You can come up to Pinnaroo Point to demo either kites any day we are there (any windy days). We also have Airush Vapor in 7m which is better for powered twin tip surf type riding. All three kites are winners. But try for yourself and see what you think.

Good winds,

Meerkat, seen as how everyone else is pimping I might have a go!
To be fair a lot of the newer hybrids including all does mentioned above have got there acts sorted out now and the 7 is no longer the tack on in the designers quiver that never actually got tested.

I do note that all the kites that everyone raves about are bridle hybrids and certainly the new ones turn as fast as the old Cs and offer more stability, depower, relaunchability and bottom end.

The 7m RRD Type 9 is easily the best 7m I have used, with great wind range effortless lighning speed turning , light bar pressure, stability for unhooked riding. Also by tweaking the quiver [slowing the 7 and speeding the 12] the whole quiver 7m 9m and 12m get a similar feel, so you dont get that 'whats going on?' feel when you pull the 7 out of the bag after weeks of lower wind.

You can demo the Type 9 with John an Andy at SOS, as they say "dont believe the hype fly the kite

The 7m NEW kite only has 3 struts,
its light and drifts off the wind pretty good.
Its a pretty good quality for a wave kite.

Also has a designated 5th line safety that will flag the kite easily.
Reliable safety when your power supporting front lines breaks.

I thought you question was just trolling for pimps at first lol..had to expect the pimp festival..

notice most recommended flat profile kites. rebel...flow..dna..to name a few.. wouldn't the more c style be better ... vegas depowers well hooked in...torch (8m alliance) and fuel (rev is meant to be close to the fuel) all these kites are said to depower well to when hooked in... they are also c kites known for unhooked performance....whatever that means ;)

my point is actualy a kook question that is... what do unhooked surf riders look for in the kite. what will it be your looking for meerkat that will make you choose your kite?

if actual surf riders can answer this that will be swell cheers.

btw meerkat if you came down here I would lend you my 7meter rev..
