Sunday 27th November marks the return of the
2011 WAKSA Charity Downwinder for Redkite.
Over the past two years, WAKSA members have raised a sensational $23,000 for Redkite to support the great work they do with, and for children and young people through the cancer journey. Redkite has thrown out the challenge to WAKSA members to see if we can reach a $12,000 target for this year's event. Just how much can WAKSA members raise in 2011 to support this great organisation?
Once again, WAKSA members are encouraged to get out and 'shake the can' to raise funds for Redkite. Prizes this year include a massive plasma screen TV and new Shinn kite board, just in time for the 2011 season.
To put yourself in the running for either of these prizes, register at the event fundraising website www.everydayhero.com.au/event/waksadownwinder2011 , follow the links from the 'Start Fundraising' button and register as an individual or team. Prizes will be awarded to the individual member and team that raises the most money through our event website. For those not raising funds through the website, members will be asked to donate $25 to Redkite to participate on the day.
Following the format of previous years, the Downwinder will be in two legs; a 14km leg from Leighton to Scarborough (Brighton) for more experienced kiters; and a shorter, 4km leg from City Beach to Scarborough (Brighton).
As we have done in previous years, kiters will meet at Brighton beach kiosk at 1.00pm for safety briefing & instructions and buses will transport kiters to Leighton and City Beach respectively. Depending on winds on the day, we aim to have kiters at Leighton by 2.30pm and at City Beach by 4.00pm.
On water support for the Downwinder will be provided once again by Fremantle Volunteer Sea Rescue Group and our friends at Portside Marine – thank you to both organisations for their support.
Presentations and a sausage sizzle will be held for all participating members and their supporters at Brighton beach after the Downwinder.
WAKSA acknowledges the support and assistance provided by
Woodys KitesurfSUP; the
Good Guys Osborne Park;
Lemons Cafes (Claremont and Cottesloe);
