I am 60kg & am looking for 2 kites for 10-25knot range. I have had 3 sessions on a Double Agent w 40cm mast & had a couple of 30metre heelside foil runs & heel toe turns but my 2012 Cabrinha Vectors 7/9/12 are often either overpowered or falling out of the sky so I am rigging to be overpowered (& fully de powering when on foil).

I am wondering if Airush Ultra 5m & 7/8/9m (or Bandit or Mono or Notus Air) might be better to learn with? With a spare set of line extensions to extend the range of the kite I am using.

Any advice much appreciated on what you would recommend for my weight, wind range (not too windy or fast) & skilllevel
a. which kite
b. what sizes
c. whether I should persevere w the Vectors a bit longer
d. Who demos & sells Ultra & Notus Air in Sydney

The Ultra will definitely make learning to foil a lot easier. The kite has a huge usable range and wants to stay in the air no matter what flying mistakes are made or how sketchy the wind gets. @82 kg on a foil with 20m lines I'm comfortable with a 9m Ultra. You probably won't want to foil in above 20 knots especially whilst learning. At 60 kgs I'd be guessing an 8m for similar results. A 7m maybe ok but could be a little small and nervous as a one kite quiver. No matter what kite you use keeping the kite very high (11-1) will help bleed power off.

damn, I remember how scary it was trying to bleed off power! It's actually easy once you are comfortable on a foil, but I still recall the terror!

thanks very much @snalberski! Seems there r no airush dealers in nsw so I can't demo an ultra - very sad... A few people seem to like Ozone REO so I will try one of them -maybe 8m? No one seems to be flying Mono or Bandit 1 strut kites... Looking fwd to trying to fly the kite higher to bleed speed to see if that helps. Thx again.

When I took a 9m ultra out for a demo I found I could bleed power really easily just by sheeting out. the kite would move forward in the window and the canopy would start to luff dropping almost all the power.

This was very useful for my newbie foiling.

Also the kites ability to stay in the air so easily was a huge confidence booster

Anyone tried foiling on a cab FX? 3 struts so still relatively light but not quite the drift of a wave kite..

Not tried one but it will work I think. Friends who own them say they are ok for waves so should work on a foil, just not as well as a dedicated wave or single strut would.

Ive been using my 8m 10m and 12m FX on the moses fluente.

They actually do pretty good and are light and active enough to stay in the air in as low as 6-7 knots if you are up on the foil or loop a lot to waterstart.

I go with another guy who rides Solos and he can go a bit more up wind than me but is no faster and doesnt seem to go any better in light wind.

Having said all that, they dont keep up with my foil when going down wind fast and i already mentioned the average upwind ability.

If you can only have one quiver to do twin tip and foiling i think the FX is a good choice along with the dash and Enduro.

BRM Clouds from 9 knots and higher. ( I think the Clouds are very specialized kites optimized for free ride foiling. I would not recommend them for any other type of kiting). Concept Air Pulsion 12 for 6- 9 knots. I am 70 kg with a moderate to high lift wing and beginner/intermediate skill level.
