Largest kite and board you have. I am taking a 15m Peter Lynn Fury Light and a 6ft 3 surfboard. It will be very hard on any kite less than 13m, likewise for average twin tips.

Thought I'd resurrect this thread.

Im doing my first L2L and whilst I want to be competitive, Im a surfer and a twin tipper - racings not my game and Im pretty much making up the numbers. I need some help selecting a board:

The kite race boards are obviously set up for windward leewards. They look wide, short, flat bottomed with long fins. Good for height and staying planing in lighter winds….. Are they suitable for flat chat reaching in heaps of large chop?

Ive seen some guys go for a skinny light surfboard. How do these go?

Ive seen other guys alter a windsurf board. More length and weight. They seem "heavy underfoot"? Like you'd be dragging them around?

Of course Ive never done it, so any advice would be great.

Formula course boards take a fair bit of skill to use if big conditions, but finished 2 out of top 3 in L2L last year, and took most of the top spots in LOC as well.

Surfboard you'll enjoy the ride regardless of conditions, and will have fun.
A TT finished in top 10 last year. but can be tough going in bigger seas over longer distance and full speed.

Custom speed boards, quick in the right conditions and combined with the right kite. Should be easy to ride and balanced, not too much back leg pressure. too small/narrow and you need to much power/right conditions to get the best from them. Try it before you buy it.

Regardless of what you ride, like windsurfing, you are fastest on the board you find most comfortable.

really depends on conditions whats going to be fastest..make board call few days prior to race. At least Perth forecast is mostly spot on.

I'm gonna smoke everyone in the L2L this year on this bad boy. Reliable sellers on eBay promised me they work.
