Found a cheap royal race board, about 60 wide, with rista fins, pretty cheap. is it worth looking at or saving for a north board or something else better. On a pretty tight budget but am always someone that thinks its worth saving a bit more for something better.

I am planning on getting into racing over the next few months so am pretty new.

any input would be appreciated.

Cheers guys

If your keen on north talk to Matt or Dave from kite and sup as they are selling 2012 boards dirt cheap. A 60cm board sounds more of a cross over slalom board. To be serious racing ypu'll need a 69. If fins are good rista's could still be a great but though as they are $750 a set new.

As AGK says not an ideal race board, probly ok for learning, but you will be lacking in board speed when you have your first race and will be looking to upgrade to be at the pointy end

Look for at least a 2012 69 wide 3 fin board
Most stock fins are crap, so if they are with the board dont put to much value on them as you will be buying something better eventually.

As there are new 2013 models coming out you should be able pickup a used 2012 model.

kiteandsup.com i think have a have a 2012 north with ristas for sale

send us pictures

I was riding a Royal board last year, and really loved it! I actually regret I sold it...

If it's the Royal Stealth below:

You have my word: it is a very good race-board

sent a message with some pics. Yeah im not sure what i want. I just want to get into it and the north seem to be well priced and a competitive shape. i knew the royal would be too small but for 400 with ristas i thought it could be worth it. wheres kite and sup? open to any options at the moment. i assume the ristas are a bit older but idk how much the shape has changed. just have to confirm they are a good length for me. what length would i want at about 90kgs...?

you shld have 42/42cm and 39cm on back with your weight.

the 2012 royal raceboard is really easy to ride, perfect board to get into racing.
north board also good board.

i would not buy any raceboard older than 2012 and narrower than 69cm wide, waste of time and money if you want to get into course racing.
