We used to find old car bonnets preferably deep ones bog them up with tar from the road, then paddle them around nearby dams, I am still alive.
That sounds like hard work.
We used to tow them along the beach behind the beach buggy.
The pic below shows a better use for Austin A40 bonnets. They were the perfect shape for beach planers with a nice high front and a stylish chrome grill.
They made great sand planers and could even ski out on the water once you got moving fast.
There were lots of jagged edges on the underside of the bonnets though and whenever we came off, which was often, it would usually result in bad cuts.
And I mean
really bad cuts!
They used to get so hot from friction on the sand that we had to sit on old chaff bags, otherwise we got our butts burnt.

We made a few different beach buggies. This one was on a Vee Dub chassis and worked pretty well for years.
Lots of fun!
