Hey guys,

I'm new to Oz and at the moment in Perth.
I plan to travel to Bali mid february and afterwards directly to Melbourne or Sydney.

As my kite bag is approx 160*50*30cm and the weigh is 30kg.
Which airline in the best to travel to Bali and from there to the east coast regarding my sports-bag?

Edit: as there are these AirAsia offers it would be 110$ + 35$ for sports luggage (30KG)... That would totally be all right, but im not sure if my bag with all the other stuff (wetsuit, harness etc) or only the board counts as sports luggage..

Thanks in advance and a happy new year to all of you.
Dave

Most airlines operating out of Perth to Bali are of the LCC types (AirAsia, Jetstar and even though not LC anymore, Virgin). These airlines have between zero and 22 kg allowance for baggage depending on what fare you pay. After 22kg they charge excess at ripoff rates.

I believe the only 'Legacy' carrier out of Perth to Bali is Garuda. When I travel to Bali for diving, I divvy up my dive gear and personal belongings between check in and carry on. I think Garuda allows 30kg from memory.

1 - you can get a kite bag under 22kg, work on your packing. A 30kg bag is an issue with every airline

2 - Never say it's a sports good bag

I've never had an issue with either Virgin or Jet Star and kite gear can't speak for Air Asia

ship your kite gear to melbourne/sydney via courier & just take a surfboard to bali & 1 large kite. no point dragging a quiver to indo- you won't be using small kites or a twintip. in fact i doubt you'll be doing any kiting mid feb, but i guess you never know

Yeah, already thought about that courir thing.
But when I did a quick look at a comparison website I only got an offer for 1200$ 0.0
That's way to much.. Would be cheaper to carry it around with me...
?
Any ideas ?

The only advice you'll need is
"Don't fly Jetstar. Ever. "

I flew Jetstar to Bali once... Never again. By the time we got there (2.5 hours) half the plane were bluing with each other. When we disembarked, to separate people stormed off across the apron to get on another flight home. They wanted nothing to do with their partners.

Will never fly them again by choice..

As for the OPs question, pack smartly and you should be right with 30kgs.,

Bali was a deal breaker for a recent relationship and it was the best $800 I ever spent.

If you are looking at Air Asia an your are not sure about the sporting allowance just go with buying extra weight allowance. AAX baggage fees aren't too bad if you book it with your ticket rather than pay at the check-in counter.

I have travelled to Bali the last few years, usually stay a month or so and take a ship load of kit, don't book any normal check in luggage just paid I think it was $50 each way last year for 40kg of sporting goods, booked when I booked my tickets.

Fairly sure there weight limit per bag is 30kg.

In my 6'4 coffin bag I have about 25kg of stuff, 5'9 kitesurf board, 6'4 surfboard, 2 kites, bar and lines, harness, towel, spare fins, sup paddle, clothes etc, then my 9'2 sup in another board bag with a bit of padding etc it comes in at just under 15kg.

Computer, camera's etc travel with me in my carry on bag.

Wouldn't expect hardly any wind in mid February though.

Thanks guys, I'll take it with me..::)

I don't wanna kitesurfing there', but I'll go from Perth to Bali and then directly towards the east coast of Australia.. That's the reason why I'm taking all my stuff with me..

I'll do as you advised, book a normal ticked with no checked luggage and a sports bag. Mine should be just under 30kg as it is 2 kites, 1 board, harness etc and a few clothes..

Thanks a lot guys...

Then why not ship it direct to east coast? Gotta know someone that will take care of it for you, and save carting it around the world.
