Warranty... give the manufacturers local rep or Apple store a call, they may cover it, maybe not. Worst case they can give you idea's on where and how much it may cost to repair. Your home contents insurance might cover it under accidental breakage. Good Luck!

Should be in the other topic, 1st world problems.

You can try warranty, although karma might get ya for being dishonest " Stubbies".
Try Gumtree Supersonic, alot of people doing repairs nice and cheap. Just check that it does not void the warranty as some repairers do use different glass. An acquaintance had his Iphone glass replaced and 2 weeks later the phone died. He took it back to the vodaphone shop and sure enough it became his problem/

How people rant - get warranty, get warranty that's why it's so hard to get these day's as to many people are dishonest and like everything ruin it for others.

To get a screen and back cover replaced on my iPhone 4 a few months back was only $150. Still cost a few bucks but cheaper than I expected. I got it done at a kiosk at my local shopping centre. Had my phone back in under an hour.

The warranty is screwed the device is busted whats-more I'll donate my left teste if they agree to repair it for free.

You're sure it's Ipod and not Iphone?

If it's for Ipod or Iphone it's very easily done with a bit of care, good eyesight and steady hands. Here's 1 guide there are more, watch a few different ones a few times to really get your head around the job/process. Also a good LED headtorch is handy.

Buy a screen of ebay. From someone in Oz or if unavailable then HK with good rep.

http://www.ebay.com.au/sch/i.html?_odkw=ipod+5+screen&_osacat=0&_from=R40&_trksid=p2045573.m570.l1311.R6.TR12.TRC2&_nkw=ipod+screen+replacement+kit&_sacat=0

If however it's more likely Iphone5.

www.ebay.com.au/sch/i.html?_sacat=0&_from=R40&_nkw=iphone+5+screen+replacement+kit&_nkwusc=ipone+5+screen+replacement+kit&_rdc=1

Whichever device it is make sure you get the toolkit included as there are propriety pentalobe screw's that you won't have the driver for and the phillip's heads are tiny, smaller than most peoples general jeweler's toolkit.

I've repaired lappy's, phones, mp3's and I'm no brain surgeon, give it a go you'll both learn something. The best fix I did was my wife's Iphone speakers for $10 delivered, they quoted $70. Another satisfying job was fixing my laptop in warranty after the "OEM technician" left a plug half undone.

What slammin said. I helped a mate and we'd never done anything like it before. Went... ok. Worked. Went back together. His girl was happy. A few weeks later she lost it anyway. Took a few hours all up. Would be a fun project to do together and would teach him to respect the thing if he sees how much work it is to repair. The only real hard part is getting one little plug to click in place, you have to press it with something at just the right angle. I think a butter knife worked for me in the end. The rest is a piece of .. err. easyness.

Like you I have no idea how the young bloke managed to break the screen, hence the "they may cover it, maybe not". Karma my hairy arse!

Thanks for the responses folk, have calmed down a bit now.

It is an iPod 5, almost new, will check out the warranty idea, but agree that it is unlikely to be covered.

And yes I have googled and found the gumtree ads, otherwise it looks like closest to me is burleigh. Another ad says he will come to me, but imagine the travel cost!

I may look at the do-it- myself idea

Cheers
Rick

Subjective from the quote "like" is correct. However to correct my grammar you should lead by example so the above should be "too much facebook"...

Throw it in the bin. Tell the young feller he's adopted and you're going to trade him in on one that works properly and doesn't break stuff.

What's the problem?

It's HIS not yours, so don't stress about it
He will have to find a way to earn some money & have it fixed if he wants to continue using it.
That is how you learn to appreciate things & look after them.

Just advise him how he can go about that

Now back to your rum & coke

By the way, why doesn't he pay you for the internet access, he would use a lot less then

Love it Paul, that's the way I feel, but am supposed to show guidance and fatherly concern!

With regard to the Internet access, we just pay for unlimited anyway as it is used for schoolwork.....not really a "necessity" of life so to speak.

Will keep you all updated as i have just heard a rumor about apple......as they wish to keep me a customer....with all the competition....they may actually do it free....will let you know

Just go to carrara market on the week end, take it to the guys at the far left end side of the market (before the bridge)

I think they are lebanese (well they speak a little french and look like if they could come from there ), very friendly, should be done in a couple of hours...

Can't miss the place, one of the guys has enormous muscles and no hair (vin diesel look alike )

Did it last week to an iphone 4 - screen and LCD backign cost me $27 delivered and then took about an hour all up to do the screen - then I did the home button for another $5 bucks. Youtube is your friend. Just like new now Otherwise its about $70 at the local fix it shop for the screen and another $35 for the home button.

Make sure you order the correct parts. Have a look on the back of the phone / ipod to check the model number. Most suppliers on ebay give you simple instructions to ensure you order correctly.

Update,

as the ipod was only 6 weeks old, we (my wife) decided that we (my wife) should try and maintain our warranty, and as the young bloke had paid for an extended warranty.......it was a forgone conclusion (for my wife).

anyhoo....we went back to JB HF and the geek there advised that if we went to an apple store, we may have it done for free, he said they would just exchange it with a near new one.....this got me pretty excited...(too good to be true I hear you snicker)

and yes it was too good to be true. We went into the apply store at Robina, and amazing place for those who haven't been. We had to make an appointment on line....you can't just turn up. We were even early, and were asked to wait 10 mins before checking in.

Has a little play with an apple TV (mmmmmmm) any way, checked in and met our consultant.

Her name escapes me but a lovely young lady, who then proceeded to bend me over the nearest counter, without any lubricant, extracting my wallet from my pocket and with a lovely smile robbed me blind!

I walked out dazed and smiling, with a sore wallet and $159 poorer with a brand new Ipod 5.......as the broken one was so new....they did not have any replacements to offer, so just sold me another new one at a heavily reduced price.

So young bloke gets no pocket money for the next 30 weeks and as we are on 3 acres, I am not mowing for a long time to come.....his job now.

so I suppose it all turnout OK in the end> :-)

If your Iphone is not in warranty, then it's not worth to give it to apple store for repair work as they would charge for hell lot of money. Instead you can give it to some local iphone repair shop who are specialized in repairing any apple products. Visit this website for more Iphone repair related problem: http://www.iphonefixitman.com.au/iphone-repairs/
