my father in law had 11 kids and worked 6 days a week his whole life. He only retired at 71 and still works casually.
He would dearly love to travel and see remote australia, but his wife wont go with him and he is pretty broke.
He is super experienced and well respected in very heavy earthmoving - dam creation, levelling using the biggest of dozers etc but has tickets and machinery experience in driving everything (trucks, escort etc), and could do just about anything (old skool)
wondering if anyone knew of any short term work in northern oz perhaps on a station or something where he can help pay for the trip out and see a bit of the place?
It sounds like with his experience he would make a great trainer and assessor. Get him to do some study (6mths?) and he could choose a RTO that would pay him to travel around to various sites in order to train up new guys on machinery.
TAEs with lifetime experience are very rare and sought after.
Edit - just in case you don't know, if he contracts to a RTO that run courses in tickets that he has, he can train and assess for any of those tickets.
I thought you can registered him in a casual jobs melbourne check 'em http://www.jobsmelbournevic.com.au/casual ...There you can find lots of casual jobs of your desired type..Just browse by the category, salary type, area where you wanna work and job type and get closer to your dream job...

They've got 40 jobs in total on that site. Probably somewhere between 50-100% are made up starters from the site devs to get the ball rolling. The rest most likely keen bean recruitment agents going the extra mile to harvest CVs using vague made-up jobs just like they do on seek.
Should approach the companies which require trainers. The wealth of knowledge passed down can't be taught from a book.
Is he only interested in trainer/assessor type jobs? I may have a position available at one of our more remote sites in northern australia shortly that will have to be filled at short notice if he is interested in more of a care & maintenance role. He just needs to realise this is more of a live in position not a FIFO position and would have to be willing to commit for a minimum 1 year or possibly just the wet season when our campaigns are not active - still entitled to A/L, S/L and the usual conditions entitled to a permanent employee during this period. Please PM me if you think he may be interested. Flights to/from his capital city, meals, accommodation, phone, internet all provided along with vehicles. Must be willing to comply with all company policies and procedures, maintain confidentiality at all times, occassionally liaise with stakeholders, have the ability to service small plant & equipment and have general handy man type skills. Exceptional fishing nearby apparently. Would be required to complete a medical assessment including D&A.
