Nah mate - just grab some spray on Oven cleaner - let that caustic shizz do the eating while you throw your first couple of stubbies down - then HP spray the old girl down

degreaser will leave a crappy taste behind

You can use degreaser and it will work, but:-

Make sure it is all gone before you light the BBQ or you could go up in flames.

Make sure you clean it all off because it tastes like shizzzzz.

Think the Pup is right though might be easier with the oven cleaner.

Good luck and happy cooking.

I reckon no matter how well you wash it you will still have a smell for a while.

Go with the oven cleaner BUT if using HP be careful, it is a really bloody good flesh dissolver (why do you think it works so well on animal fats??) and you do not want backsplash. Wash off slowly at first, even neutralise the area after with copious amounts of vinegar if pets n kids may run around

How is oven cleaner any safer than engine degreaser? They're both unsuitable for cooking surfaces.

Engine degreaser is for engines. Your bbq is not an engine. Unless you are a machine! Or you're into foil wrapped slow cooked meals while driving.

You need this
www.hostdirect.com.au/showProduct/Cleaning/Chemicals/6328/Extra+-+High+Alkaline+Oven,+Grill+and+Floor+Cleaner,+5+Litre
As before wash off with water and finish with vinegar then heat it up and spray on oil, turn off and look at the gleam..........
that will be destroyed when you want to cook again.

Do not get it on or in yourself. If you do wash with running water and call poisons hotline.

Why clean it? You just can't beat the taste of a good 10yo bbq masterstock.

Heat the bbq up then pour some water on to it. While it is boiling and steaming away , use paper towels with some tongs to soak up the residue.
I do this every time I finish cooking and then a light spray with canola oil. Ready to go for next time. I've had the bbq for about 16 years and it's still in good nick.

Call me old fashioned but a wire brush and dishwashing liquid does the job for me.

If you have a self cleaning oven, put the racks and anything else that will fit in the oven, then use the self clean cycle.

When I was at Wodgina mine site, the quolls cleaned the barbie for us.......

since they did such a good job, I let our kelpie have a go at cleaning the barbie at home,

kelpie did a ripper job, but the Sandwichmaker made noises which suggested it might not be a good idea to try again.

if you saw what people did to public bbq's where i grew up, you'd never eat off a barby again

or use the liquid soap dispensers

and then a german or japanese person made a prono about it

Depends who you invite. Burn off the degreaser for a bit and boil some hot water on it the top. Scrape it then wipe.

f'ck it that'll do.

As long as the bangers don't taste of fuel it's all good.
