Im just wondering why Rockingham people get labeled bogans.........

Its a shame rockingham get a bad wrap its beautiful and i make the statment that in all area bogans are people with no sports no life and are depressed gamblers and heavy drinkers... this is not rockingham..
i think we should organize a rebuttle from today tonight highlighting the finer points of rockingham and the beautiful beaches and community it does provide..

This label of Rockingham being full of bogans is slander (as mandurah) is false and some of the people dont appreciate the finer points of the comunity..

Think that a definition of bogan is required. Having lived in the area for 30 odd years, distinctly remember that to be a bogan in Rocko required all of the following:-
1. Dessert Boots (black)
2. Straight leg jeans (blue or black)
3. Black rock band tshirt (metallica, acdc, sepultura and most prized was iron maiden)
4. Flanno (any colour - COMPULSARY)
5. Packet of Winnie Blues up the sleeve.
6. Preferred transport was either ford or holden ( V8 Compulsary unless you had an XU1)
The look was always accompanied by a cloud of Brut 33.

Back in the heady days of the mid 80's, 50% of Rockingham would fall into the above stereotype - but today that is simply not the case as a bogan (based on the above) is an almost extinct being in the area.

Not standing on thier side but generally remember the following about the bogan:-
1. Usually held down a 9-5 job in the manual labour sector with most being or aspiring to be tradesman (motor mechanic). Beer, ciggies, petrol and cars were not achievable on the rocknroll.
2. May have carried a knife, but would never pull it in a fight.
3. Looked a lot meaner than they really were, just got targetted for being mischievious.

Please be careful not to mix up bogan with low socio-economic f***stick, which I have to say are prominant in all of the metro region and seem to gather in the newer first home buyer-overnight suburbs.

As busterwa points out, Rockingham is a great place and having been around the world I wouldnt live anywhere else. However I wont be supporting his cause as I think if people bypass it on the freeway, because of the reputation that a highly respected media outlet such as "today tonight" promotes, then less people to f**k with my days.

Having grown up in Rockingham , it took 10 years of not living there for the stigma to wear off. Back in the seventies we didnt qualify as boguns, as rockingham was "little england" then

To side with buster, for today tonight (or whoever it was) to pick out a few girls who quite honestly have no ambition in life and are outright bogans and who just happen to live in rockingham at the same time, and then throw their blanket over Rockingham as the majority demographic is definitely slander. It begs the question of the possible impact to tourism this type of disgraceful and irresponsible (as usual) journalism might have on business.

I reckon let all the metro f**ktards think what they like about Rockingham. If it means they take their pretentious lubed asses else where all the better.

CUBs is because they have (had may be better term) a 1 then lots of zeros behind it in their bank balance but unfortunately zero class or intelligence in the way they spend/spent their dough.

Now that the awmighty boom is over we are actually supposed to feel sorry for twits with little education (or real qualifications in the case of 'pretend' building tradies) that blew all their dough trying to seem flashy and now can't get squat for a once very exxy SUV (Screw U Vehicle) wit accompanying once very exxy trailbike and once very exxy jet-ski parked in the drive of their once very exxy 3-story house with outdoor kitchen, jacuzzi etc etc. Even the misus once very exxy inflato boobs are sagging!

Now flamers out there take the time to read the rest here: Don't get me wrong I have respect for REAL tradies but they have been extremely thin on the ground round these parts for the last decade (witness much of the incompetant and shonky rennos work on my house and MANY others I have seen). There has been no shortage of arrogant, lazy and incompetant cowboys and they deserve zero respect or sympathy.
