I just saw an ad for some woman's product (cant remember which because i was too disturbed).

It shows a series of women carrying beavers around, enjoying coffee with their beaver, generally having a great time with their beaver. Apparently they only have one so need to take care of it.

Have the advertisers gone toooooo far??????????[}:)][}:)][}:)][}:)]

Are you serious !

With the amount of tlts and ar5e you blokes post on these forums I'm suprised you're complaining. Surely you would find any reference to beavers amusing.

Now, don't get me started on the girly shots dispersed within the windsurf/kiting vids.
Is that really necessary!

(I only post my boy shots out of protest to try and even up the score a little)

I honestly don't believe any female would find a beaver commercial in any way appealing...must have been created by a male.

(Oh, I get it...the [}:)] means you're joking.....right?)

No wasn't joking, maybe used the wrong smiley.

Lighten up washedupchick, I'm sure most people realise I was just trying to get across that the concept of the ad was just wrong, I'm sure there are better ways of getting the information across to the intended audience.

Yes a reference to beavers is amusing, but only in the right context.

Saw it a first a few days ago, and thought "what a stupid women walking around with a beaver", then when it was done, I figured it out (im a little slow....) and couldn't believe how stupid it was.
Not funny in the slightest bit, and im a 17yr old guy.
I dont get adverts, and hired actors etc. Why not show a picture of the product, with a brief written and spoken description (whilst full screen on the product) and have it over with in 5s. Ad breaks would be shorter, Id know what the prduct looked like, and exactly what it did. All i want to know. Not if some girl has a pet beaver, or if some kids mum eats vita brits.

I'm sorry NotWal, I don't want to dash your hopes. Maybe what I said about my man pics is not entirely true.

Hmmmm...nice brickwork.

And for the rest of you....
here's a shot of my beaver...

Did it work?
All I remember is some lady walking along with a beaver under her arm.
I've got no idea what the add was for and seeing it did not even make me curious as to what the add was for. And I've seen it many times! And I still don't know what it's for.!!
Also, believe it or not, it didn't occur to me that the beaver was an analogy for anything else other than a beaver.
So,... the ad. was a total flop!

Absolutley !!!

how many people's attention have you drawn to this add - how many people have sort out and tried to find it on the web etc...179 views at the time of this post!!!!!
Thats 178 more than just you. or 177 more than you and me.
You don't have to remember much just get people talking about it.
I can't beleive you think its a flop!!! Its the exact opposite!!!

BTW if you don't like the add you can control it by hitting the "ON/OFF" or "CH up/dwn" buttons on the RC.

Commercial TV makes me sick to the stomach Mind poisen all of it subliminal and non subliminal advertising rife.. creating unrealistic ideals of what you should be,what you should own, what kind of job or friends you should have, what you should eat the list goes on.Turn the damn thing off or watch ABC or SBS if you must watch.
Sorry nothing to do with beavers i know

Personally I found it mildly amusing (well the beaver was a funny little fella - erm.. creature). I can't see how anyone was actually put off by it unless it was the WORD beaver.. it's not like they said **** or anything???? Geez are we living in the US mid-west surrounded by gun-totin-slack-jawed-over-zealous-gawd-botherers???

As for: I honestly don't believe any female would find a beaver commercial in any way appealing... A couple of bi girls I know might well disagree with you there surfychicky

I wouldn't be at all surprised if the ad company made the complaint just to get a bit more mileage out of it. Well after all, one beaver will only last so long...

The criteria for determining whether an add works is, how many times does a person have to watch it to become aware of what we are selling.
If after watching it many times, I am totally unaware of what they are selling, then the add is a flop. Even if I can recite the add word for word, if it doesn't make me aware of what is being sold then the add is wasted. It might have amused the masses but as far as the client getting his moneys worth, it was a total waste of their money.
A good add gets your attention and then holds your attention to the advertisement by whatever means they have chosen while at the same time slipping you the sugar coated pill of the product they are trying to sell you.
If they fail to get your attention the add is a flop.
If they fail to impart the knowledge of what they are selling then the add is a flop.
I am aware of the lady carrying a beaver so they suceeded on the first task of getting my attention.
But I am still unaware of what they are selling so on the second count it was a flop.
(However, because of this post I will pay close attention next time I see it.)

Still have to disagree with you.

A bunch of windsurfers talking about a beaver add (which i'm still yet to see). At first, as a client, i would think WTF have you done with my money.

But as more and more peoples attention are drawn too it, and seek it out, talk about it, here or anywhere. As a client I would say "Bingo" thanks boys/girls certainally getting more exposure than anticipated.

Sure your not in the demographics(spelling?) of potential customer(i think), but there is a hell of a lot more to advertising than the blatant message!!

See stribo's reply - theres more to advertising than being hit in the face with a wet fish (or beaver) its a science in its self

or Maybe we just agree to disagree

That's far too expensive!
I'm going to need at least three because I think DavMen is going to wheel out some heavy beaver and try to blow me out of the water.
What i need is a really cunning stunt,..... or something like that.
Any suggestions? (and keep them quiet because I don't want DavMen to hear about it.)

Well ok, but dont tell anyone. - Nandralone, Steroids and Horny Goat Weed will give you the winning edge, but its cheating. A real man would front up and take his blows like a mench. Just remember, as your precious bodily juices are drawn from your body leaving you depleted and exhausted, at least it doesn't hurt much, and tomorrow is another day. Be strong.
