Freedom fighters I can understand even if I don't think the loss of innocent lives is justified. And lone gunmen like we have in America I also understand (mainly mental health exacerbated by misanthropy/ misinformation /antisemitism/etc).

But a group of people getting together and deciding that killing innocent strangers because "god" said so? How many mental gymnastics must a non insane person go through to justify that? Time to get a different god.

Pretty sure in most cases it's just because "evil doers" didn't have the right ring to it. The IRA were called terrorist because they were unwilling to gift their land to Lizzy. The Tamil Tigers also had good reason in their motivation. Americans routinely give others reason to hate them. On the subject of America, did you see the Baltimore Bridge

Surely its not that hard to actually just spread a bunch of baby powder on some grossly overweight rich mining magnates doorstep and they slip and die or like one the big rich politician sorta people why is it always like below average people slaughtering averageish people??

I reckon i could train a monkey to just have absolutely terrible table manners just zero decorum drop them off near a mansion with a box of bananas and let nature take its course

Palestine had over 27% unemployment. With the EU and the US funding much of their unemployment benefits.

Once Hamas opened the border many citizens crossed the border, looted and took hostages.

Would they have done this if they were employed?

Not many mental gymnastics... it's all there in the book.

Permission to take up arms is hereby given to those who are attacked because they have been oppressed - Allah indeed has the power to grant them victory - those who have been unjustly driven from their homes, only because they said: "Our Lord is Allah".
Quran 22:39-40[58]

Prophet! Rouse the believers to wage war. If there are twenty amongst you, patient and persevering, they will subdue two hundred: if a hundred, they will subdue a thousand of the disbelievers: for these are a people without understanding.
Quran 8:65[59]

Muster against them all the men and cavalry at your disposal so that you can strike terror into the enemies of Allah and of the believers and others besides them who may be unknown to you, though Allah knows them. And remember whatever you spend for the cause of Allah shall be repaid to you. You shall not be wronged.
Quran 8:60[61]

O you who believe! when you meet those who disbelieve marching for war, then turn not your backs to them. And whoever shall turn his back to them on that day - unless he turn aside for the sake of fighting or withdraws to a company - then he, indeed, becomes deserving of Allah's wrath, and his abode is hell; and an evil destination shall it be.
Quran 8:15-16[65]

Here's a good one... I like the translations.... so peaceful and calming.

Hostage taking is a natural thing to do if you're unemployed?

Is it really about god, or would those people think up another excuse to go on a rampage if they didn't have that one? There's always someone who's unhappy with their lot in life and wants to do something to pull others down to feel better about themselves.

Since we're talking about the Baltimore Bridge anyway. I hadn't even considered the cost of replacing the world's third longest bridge if it were no longer up to code. There's a whole bunch of bridges in America that are now substandard. Cost a fortune to upgrade the golden gate bridge. Americans like to pull insurance jobs. I guess crashing a plane into the bridge would've looked a little suspicious. Nothing suspect about a ship without a rudder. Also nothing surprising about a bridge without pylon guards. I don't know what happened.

I look at pictures of the colapse of the bridge and all the problems that it would cause people there for maybe a decade. I understand 6 people died. Baltimore is a city of about 500k with an area of 239 square km.

I look at photos of the Gaza strip with a population of 2 mil and an area of 365 square km. Estimates are that 32k people have been killed.

Is it only me that thinks there is a massive disconnect in what we think is important news?

But, yup... this Baltimore Bridge accident is awful.

Gee, I hope any doctor I see is smart enough to dumb down 'perspicacity' when they are talking to me. I guess that's the next level then.

Do people get smarter? I don't think they do, but I might come back with a different answer later.

It means acquired knowledge, and there's an absolutely massive amount required for nearly every career in medicine, so much knowledge that any argument on the subject is usually easily rebutted, and some get so used to being more knowledgeable than others that they develop a belief that the value of their opinion transcends their singular field.

Perspicacity is "from from the Latin perspicax meaning 'sharp-sighted, having the power of seeing through.'" I assume the later is why Polymethyl methacrylate was register under the trade name Perspex. I like to think perspicacity is about the ability to see through bull$h1t. A useful skill when perusing this forum.

So in this case we're looking at October atrocities being Criminal in nature for monetary benefit?

Rather than Politically driven act of terrorism?

I just don't think it's as simple as what bjw is saying.

I find it quite interesting that there seems to be a belief by some on here that terrorism is a solely one sided affair
Do the conservatives see Brenton Harrison Tarrant as Freedom fighter or Terrorist

Oops, I think I perspicacitified the **** out of that then. I sort of assumed that people would assume that I either already knew the meaning of it (as if!) or would Google it myself.

I feel that in all fields, if someone knows something well, they should be able to dumb it down enough for the average person to understand, at least at a high level. It is amusing sometimes when some doctors get annoyed when you ask them technical questions, but also good when some doctors then give you great replies based on that.

That said, the definition I read isn't clear to me, and I am not sure 'acquired knowledge' is enough. I think it implies such deep understanding that some things are so obvious that they are no longer worthy of thought. But I don't know, and would never write perspicacity in a sentence.

I'm never using it in a sentence again either. Turns out all the people I've listened to that appeared smarter than me were often wrong. This is just another one of those episodes. Fortunately we have remery here to improve my intelligence.
