Has anyone had any experience with this stuff?
It's extracted from prickly pear.

www.nopalpowdercapsules.com/diseases/k-z/nopal-cactus-prickly-pear-weight-loss

I'm wondering if it lives up to its claims (or even approaches them) and if it would be suitable for someone physically incapable of significant exercise, ie wheelchair bound.

No I haven't but one look at the website would indicate that it's just one more of those miracle weight loss products "that burn through your wallet but not your fat" as they say on their own web site.

So in reply to their opening question where they ask;-
"Are you sick and tired of all those so-called Revolutionary and Incredible Breakthrough Weight Loss advertisements that burn through your wallet but not your fat?"
My answer would be yes, including this one.

I think it is most unlikely that anything would actually "kill" your fat cells as they claim, without doing extreme damage to the rest of your body.
At best, it might have some appetite suppressant qualities, but the rest of it sounds like more of the same baloney that they all say with the miracle new products which come around regularly and then disappear. Gogo berries, acai berries, miracle tea, miracle water, miracle baloney.

If you lose weight it's only because your wallet is lighter.
But if it's cheap, then why not try it?
Some of those things are all that is needed to change a mindset into being more health aware, so in that way they act as a focal point for further action.
A lot of these miracle cures work in exactly that way which is why some people claim they work.

Hey that's a coincidence. Sitting here doing my tax return (too hot outside,.. it's up to a million degrease multigrade,.. gotta be global warming,.. I don't ever recall us having a hot day here since,.. ummm well last summer really,.. or was it last week,.. anyway gotta be global warming,.. now what was I saying,.. Oh yes,.)
On the radio comes a program about a cactus extract for treating inability to stop eating.
Apparently this is for a chromosome disorder,, chromosme 15 or something,..
Anyways,,, have a look,..

www.abc.net.au/radionational/programs/scienceshow/the-indian-cactus-which-helps-control-incessant-eating/5165762

It's not just any old cactus. It's very specific, so don't go round the garden grazing on cacti.
Anyway, probably less damaging than flysurfers recommendation.
{edit}
I just read more of the website flogging the miracle prickly pear cactus stuff.
It's only $90 for 5 bottles of pills so for $90 I would give it a try. Well, I wouln't because I don't need it but if I needed it I would give it a try.
It wont burn any fat away like they claim but I think it has the possibility of being an appetite suppressant.

Yeah well I can do that up until March but after that they will put me in gaol.
Plus they will charge me double!
Might as well at least start it while it's too hot to do anything outside.

If only it takes a pill to cure us, come on doctor I need a new drug! One that won't make me sick, stop my hair going grey and lose weight
At the same time.

The Magic Pill is here for YOU.

Secret magical powers are unlocked when Indians chop up desert cacti to make magic pills in the factory over in India.

Oh we want to believe so much don't we?

All those who couldn't manage a 26 mile marathon.
I can run a 100 metre marathon. So long as it's not too hot,.. like today. 42 degrease in the shade.

Calories in > Calories out == fat
Calories in <= Calories out == lean

It's as simple as that

If only, sure food makes you fat but it's the reason why fatties eat that's the problem!
Oh I think I'm being insensitive ! Let's call them gravity challenged with more mass than needed,
But really Fat = mentally unstable with issues and must be avoided.
I try not to care about my weight, however it's disappointing that people treat me differently when I'm on the skinny side.
Woman are shocking at passing judgment on men who are a little heavy too. But hey being fat is now normal in Aussie land
So I'll have seconds please :)).....

The theory I stated is 100% correct. If you consume more calories than you burn, you get fat.

What you are saying is a separate issue, and you are correct that unless you can address the underlying mental issue you have no hope of addressing the weight issue.

Yes. It reads like a sail ad, but can one expect it to more or less work as one would expect of a sail?

I'm not a fan of coke, but it's a scientifically proven appetite suppressant.

Theoretically, but I also learned that a lot has to do with your gut fauna, and hormones... they dictate what goes in and how it get used.
I've been able to lose weight, while eating more taking certain things to compensate for age related declines.

@NotWal, 7-Keto if you're over 35 is a cheap benign weight loss aid, add some DIM and Resveratrol to control estrogen, cut your calories and do shxt load of exercise and you'll soon lose the weight.

Sorry no magic pills.

It's not for me. It's for a 55 yo woman in a wheelchair. Exercise is out unless I trick out her wheelchair with a cattle prod. That wouldn't work. She'd know it was me.
I was thinking in terms of appetite suppression and boosting metabolism.

I'll check those things you recommend Fly.

Biology differs DIM and Resveratrol are for men over 35 who are getting midsection flab due to increased levels of estrogen, women suffer from decreased levels of testosterone.
Without exercise you're still limited to raising the metabolism, calorie restriction and dealing with how the body stores it's energy.

Human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG); will work very well for a 55yo woman, both pre and post menopause. This is what hollywood stars use, and may be coke.
7-Keto will also work... but it's very mild... it's not a stimulant, and don't expect much from it... but it's not snake oil.
At the same time you need look at gut fauna... add some good bacteria, and help it grow in the calorie restricted environment with glutamine.
Also get some CLA pre meals, UNLESS she's diabetic. This will lower her absorption of fats from meals.

Finally and most importantly... drive her ~5km from home and let her make her own way back.

hCG is a little hard to get in Aus., but the others are readily available... or au.iherb.com/ (that gives you $10 off).
If you know where to look, and customs don't seize your order real hCG (vials) can be had for as little as $1 a day. But here they want to bend you over a barrel for anything effective, or sell you rubbish.
hCG is only effective injected like insulin... orally like almost all hormones it's broken down.

You can also try stimulants like caffeine (coffee, not supplements) before exercise... but these can make people feel uncomfortable... maybe try green tea first.

PS: I just read this about DIM + Maca and women.... wholeworldbotanicals.com/factsdimwomen

No, it doesn't work! None of these magic bullets do. The only way to lose fat properly is by exercising and eating more natural stuff, rather than processed rubbish!
