And you thought the Japanese were bad... WTF is wrong with the yanks?

www.navytimes.com/article/20130830/NEWS04/308300011/Navy-studies-Training-testing-may-kill-whales-dolphins/

According to the reports, computer models show training and testing may kill 186 whales and dolphins off the East Coast and 155 off Hawaii and Southern California.

Off the East Coast, there could be 11,267 serious injuries and 1.89 million minor injuries such as temporary hearing loss. The reports also said the testing and training might cause marine mammals to change their behavior, such as swimming in a different direction in 20 million instances.

Off Hawaii and Southern California, the reports said the naval activities may cause 2,039 serious injuries, 1.86 million temporary injuries and 7.7 million instances of behavioral change.

FYI: Animals in the wild don't have Disability Care... you get injured, you get dead real quick.

So many "might" and "could be".
It could be giving me bad wind.
Tell me when they know something for real.

On the other hand, when you see a whale being dragged tail first
and bleeding, up a slaughter ramp, you can be pretty sure it is
either dead, or soon will be.

Do you think the comparison between the Japanese and the Americans
in that regard is a fair one flysurfer?
Well, I spose you do or you wouldn't have said it.

Don't the Japanese navy also do training and testing?

Unfortunately if this type of sonar is shelved the chinese and russians will be exploiting the gap and stationing subs right off our coast to threaten us, how about blaming the chinese and the russians? also the iranians are working on some subs to threaten nations in the med and the mid east.

p wee, it's like this... I gas 10 trees in the Daintree, later I count the dead and injured animals, from that I can extrapolate the number if I gas 1000 trees.

Well the US Navy did that and came up with those numbers... simplez.

Paranoia is a thought process believed to be heavily influenced by anxiety or fear, often to the point of irrationality and delusion. Paranoid thinking typically includes persecutory beliefs, or beliefs of conspiracy concerning a perceived threat towards oneself.

Don't forget the Grey's.

Now seriously the US is killing important and endangered wildlife so it can train to kill people... they really need to lay off the coolaid.

Seriously who cares who rules the world, the making of weapons is pure evil and only serves a small elite
Shoul just all learn that the planet is finite, everyone is the same and get along
And afford ecology a basic natural right to exist

Nice definition... but completely irrelevant.
So the US shelves all its military hardware and nothing bad would happen to them? Nobody would invade or have a go at their assets? Nothing?
Yeah it is all paranoia.

They are hardly alone in their destruction of the environment

No I think the Japs are way better.
Japs: Long history of kill whales for food, originally ~fairly sustainably... I'm still very much against them on this.
Yanks: Long history of slaughtering whales for oil, to the point of near extinction. Now acoustically polluting the oceans with intense sonar, causing Cetacea to beach themselves or die in EXCRUCIATING pain...

Here's a human example... imagine if this was your home and you had nowhere to go; you may want to plug the sound in to your 10000w amp, cover your eyes (Cetacea use sonar to navigate) and wait until your ears start bleeding to get a better idea:

I didn't know the Yanks were the ONLY country in the world that used submarines or sub surface acoustic technology.....Thanks Fly, I'm glad the other 40 or so countries don't hurt whales.

Bloody Yanks.

I would think their bottom would be a bit tender at the very least should they try and shelve an arsenal of that size.
Can't think of a better place for it myself though...

Complete waste of energy for crowd control.
From now on every person in public should have ID collar and government ( or police force) could press a button and individually punish or incapacitate every single person remotely.
Alternatively social control could be started in troubled country ie Afghanistan, Iraq, Syria or Somalia....
To enforce common use of collars for entire population ( including insurgents) those without collar will be eliminated by other means instantly

Well Rupert, allow me to inform you.

The US use a different type of sonar know as LFA Sonar... not your old school ping/echo, this is basically a 10 second intense 360degree variable frequency sonic wall. They originally employed the SURTASS LFA which was a passive/active sonar array with ~120NM range towed behind a boat.

SURTASS had 2 problems:
1.- It had to be slow, to keep the hydrophones on a vertical plane.
2.- It had a limitation of range bcos of the amount of towing cable.

So now the navy use their existing passive receivers part of the IUSS (Integrated Undersea Surveillance System) LIKE WHAT MOST OTHER COUNTRIES USE and tow dozens of 3D LFA with ~6x the dB output.

Other countries have sonar similar to SURTASS, but none have LFA with such high dB output.
Now they can use more and faster ships with the active array, and use stationary receivers at much greater distance.

Ask yourself how bad things have to be for you and your whole family to kill yourselves.

LFA sonar is a direct affront to the oceans life and must be banned.

The following clip describes the old type of LFA... like Christmas cracker vs a stick of TNT.

Cell phone jammer is an interesting and helpful device when we don???t want to be bothered by the cell phone noise. I just bought myself a cell phone jammer the other day,it is working great and BTW, it???s legal here in my country.

Couldn't u find the off button? Take out the battery?

Yeah. Imagine if AUSTRALIA was pretty much founded on whaling?
Wouldn't that be ironic?

From Wikipedia:

Whale oil and baleen (whalebone) were profitable commodities and whaling was one of Australia's first major export industries with coastal whaling stations helping build Australia. Sealing and whaling contributed more to the colonial economy than land produce until the 1830s.

From colonisation the whaling industry enjoyed 70 years of commercial success, until petroleum superseded whale oil.

Hell, it's frequently noted in Moby Dick, and Queequeg is pretty much a Maori.

would be of interest to see stats for boat, ship, and jet ski strikes on whales and dolphins, fish etc around the world.
i would think that collectively, they do as much damage. when water craft vanish it may be possible to link both.
