I've seen the NSW government is developing a shark tracking app so we know where whitey is....??? But it's already been done...

So, there were three tagged sharks somewhere in a 100 and 100s of square kilometres area a few hundred kilometres North-West of Santiago a few hours ago. Useful. But at least we know their names.

Why on Earth would we, as water users, want to know where the sharks are? There's probably one shark or another nearby all the time. You'd never get in the water!

So why is that a bad thing? Go get that app everyone! Less punters on the water :)

I feel that the most useful part of this app is now I know their names. Who names a shark Wyatt?

Would I be able to know accurately, within 5 metres say, whether there are sharks near me while I am desperately trying to water start on a windless day, about 2 Km outside ?

Now, would I be sent into a panic mode if I actually have such information ? Would I soil my teeny weeny red budgie smuggler ? What kind of phone do I need to obtain such "useful/helpful" information while out on the water ? Hands-free ? Voice recognition ? Brain waves ? ESP ? So many questions so few coherent answers !

On the issue of being up to the minute on what is going on. How about the app that allows you to track your pizza order ? I really like that advert with that "bright" young dude lazing across the couch, holding on his iiiiiPhone, and telling his friends that he knows exactly where his pizza is. His female friend (presumably his admiring girlfriend) gave him an approving glance and a smile. "You clever sexy stud you are" !

Would it be easier to just bloody well go and buy that damn pizza himself if he has all that time to check on the pizza boy's progress ? I love this apps thing, really I do
