How's about a round of applause for the young fella that swam 4 hours to get help for his family.
And what's to be said of the company that hired out gear with a strong offshore wind coming, I'm not across it but sounds questionable.

The kid is a future leader. Just the way he interviewed. Champion for saving his family.

And didn't raise the alarm when it wasn't returned

What was notable to me was, when he landed, for whatever reason, people on the beach did not help him (he mentioned foreigners on the beach in his interview). So then, he had to run 2km to his accommodation to locate his Mum's phone.

I think he's a champ. Only ever swum 350m

I thought hire company was crap but turns out the resort allows people to just use stuff as long as it's back at the end of the day. You can't really expect the arvo shift front desk person to know someone went paddle boarding in the morning with the free for all equipment
So it's not a hire place with a set return in two hrs kinda deal

just glad they're all ok it musta been terrifying

Forecast was bad for what they intended to do .The resort should be aware of water conditions impacting activities or don't offer them at all .Blow up sups are terrible in any wind.

Erhh nah. Gonna have to point the finger at the mother in that case. We already live in a nanny state, let's not suggest that resorts need to babysit their guests.

I think its the case of sht happens, and not point the finger at anybody. If this scenario ever got to the rates of Indian/Australian drownings, or ebike collisions, then I think it would need serious attention. I don't think it's reasonable to expect somebody with no marine background to understand how the wind works. I agree PJ, You can't expect hotels to think of everything.

Just a hunch but I'm pretty sure they'll be reviewing their proceedures.

Yep, no more stuff guests can use will be the new procedure.

A sign that says check the weather forecast before going out would be ample.
