Yesterday, I bought a Scalextric set for my 2.5 year old son. Even though it says 5 and older, he loves it. He can even operate it quite well, and already understands the trigger concept. ie. don't go flat stick!

This Digital Set looks awesome, but not cheap.

This is a serious set-up !!

I think I will get the Digital Set, and not tell the wife what it costs!

I think you will be spending the next 5 or 6 weeks reliving your youth with Papier-m?ch? - building the best tunnels, ramps and country side ! Enjoy.

My 2.5 y/old nephew was sitting in my dad's run-a-bout with me last week, he was flicking the switches and trim controls on the dash but nothing was happening. Within minutes he had found the battery isolator switch hidden under the transom, WTF! Can we trust him with a scalextric or should I juist throw him the car keys?

Great present for a little (or big) boy Simondo.

I was a teacher at a TAFE for a short while and asked the 16 y' olds if they had any AFX they wanted to sell me.

Got a "Thunder Loop Thriller" and a "Crossover" with cars for about $40.

Then bought a big box with tracks for Thunder Loop and Bathurst for $50.

We had a ton of fun with it for a year or so before we both grew out of it, so well worth the money.

Scalelectrix is very sophisticated these days and if you have room in the shed for a table with a designed track set up it can be a ball. Lots of resources on the web if you look it up. You can get really sucked in.

Scalelectrix I think is the best scale and I think the AFX people seem to have lost interest. Not advertised on TV anymore.

Have a racey Christmas.

Hey Simondo,

If you're going for the:

http://www.scalextric.com/shop/sets/digital/pro-gt-c1260/#

then check out this shop in Scotland:

www.wonderlandmodels.com/products/scalextric-digital-pro-gt-race-set/

They'll deduct the 20% VAT (i.e. GST) and then add shipping cost of about $70 for FedEx delivery (takes about a week to get to your door in Austrlia) so you'll end up paying about the same price as a UK local (and A LOT cheaper than buying from a retailer in Oz...if you can find one!).

How do I know this??? 'Cos I just had that Pro GT set delivered to my door for me my son's xmas present. (He's 7).

I had a sneak peek in the box before wrapping it...It looks frickin' AWESOME!! I CAN'T WAIT...errrr...I mean my son will love it!

I think the only two reasons I'd ever have kids is to teach them how to surf and to buy awesome toys

My AJ mate loved buying nerf guns for his son...mummy got ambushed every evening. hahah

I've My son gone the AFX route because you can fit a lot more track in the same size. Much cheaper too.

Gee, I musta been unlucky then, I only got a hornby train set,
with thousands of extras to be bought, engines, cabooses, cargo carriers.switchbacks, stations, crossings, trees etc,

....... unlimited expandability, ............

creating tunnels, and life like sets,
Having derailments, and head on trainwrecks was just sooooo so boring,

MAN ! Wish I'd got the afx or scalectrix set,
