^^^ Mathew that lost me in the first paragraph as I dont use public AP's.
I don't feel the need to review the 'status' or random thoughts of tens or hundreds of e-frens from my mobile at various locations.
It would appear that doing stuff old school is safer, is that what they're on about?
Goind back to IP's most of the time the IP is the same if you don't disconnect but I can manually change my IP from 10.0.X.1 all the way thru to 99 for the last number every time I connect - if I wish. Yes?
Nothing to do with public anything... well not in the simple-networking sense.
It basically says, "your device has a unique fingerprint, defined by the crystal oscillator which built in to the network-hardware"... so changing IP's, connecting from different locations, etc still allows you to be tracked.... because the signature it is hardware-specific.
To stop being tracked, you would need to use a completely separate device.
Of course, if you login to say facebook using both devices, then it becomes possible to bind those two fingerprints together, and with your real name.
