Cheap - hmmmm

I raced 1/8 nitro offroad ......... $60 for a set of tyres, plus fuel say $10, every fortnight. That is with no membership / track fees, no crash damage. But there was always crash damage lol.

$500 motor every season.........

$60 set of bearings every few races cos u can't risk cheapies seizing up.

Changing shock / diff oils every few races, using silicone oils laced with unobtainium......

So no, not cheap.


But addictive and fun? hell yes :-0
Like being a real race driver (if not harder as you have 3rd person perspective) - but also doing all the setup yourself. Camber, caster, toe-in, spring and damping rates, diff ratios, clutch engagement point, final drive ratio, tyre pattern and compound, and nitro tuning is an art in itself.

Fixed it for you Doggy. You had one to many words...

I loved my 1/8th Nitro buggy but so did the wall, the tree, another car, even the forklift once so eventually i gave up rebuilding it

I freaking love Nitro RC, electric has more torques and is more efficient but tunning those little 2 srtokes to rev 30,000 - 45,000 rpm depending on motor type and class is hell fun, I used to run at Moojibing reserve in the 4wd nitro on road 200mm sedans and came 4th in my fist state champ comp, running a 30 min final with a pit man doing refuelling stops very 5 to 7 minutes and seeing your cars attitude change due to your tires diameter getting smaller is so much fun and very exiting, I guess if you have not had a go with these little beasts then you cant get a feel fro why they are heaps of fun, 10 cars into the first corner is a rush.

Tuning the suspension....... What a science, 1mm here and 1mm there and the cars attitude changes completely!

I miss it heaps, but I am currently getting my old 1/8 off road Jet Probe a new 28 size nitro motor up and running for sh1ts and giggles, plus my son needs to see Daddy being an idiot and chasing cars down the street.......... I AM 4a YEARS YOUNG THANKS VERY MUCH

Not saying it's not fun, not saying it's gahey, just sayin it's not motor sport unless you're in it.

But if it has a motor in it and its not a wipa snipa and peeps call it sport, well its motorsport. Your not doing the edges or mowing the lawn are you!!

It has all the same techniques and tactics, every single one - but with the added difficulty of not being in the car

It would be cool if you could mount a camera that sends images back to a pair of goggles so you could drive it like a real car!! Im sure you could do it these days

Really Mark, thought you had more sense then that.

IT'S A HOBBY

Go-Karts fall into motorsport, you have to at least ride or sit in it to class it as a motorsport. I have rc helicopters and planes - would you class me as a pilot?

You would probably gets moments of disorientation though, going over bumps, etc.

This thread has revved me up to get mine charged up over the weekend.

Look on Ebay for some of the cheap stuff your looking for.
or fpvpilot.com - hobbywireless have some good gear - hobby king - dragonlink.

Just watch what tx/rx your running I have been told that some of these 5.8ghz will interfere with the 2.4ghz - however I do not think that will affect an rc car as your not 5km's away - or maybe you will be.

If you own a go pro you can buy cheap tx/rx kits from $160 and use it from home, using your tv. A cheap way to get started.
