Amazing sculptures.

But I hate holloween. Who decided that it's a good idea to send kids out on that "trick or treat" rubbish? That's not australian, it's american. Since when are we americans? Don't parents understand anything these days?

maxm...I suppose you are referring to the commercialism or Halloween?
but even Australia is good at that these days...having Xmas items up in shops as early as August and hotcross buns and easter eggs in the shops in early January

Halloween is not American persay..it is Celtic and the tradition of costumes also goes back to Scotland and Ireland.

They had Halloween in a small way in America but then with the influx of Irish immigrants in the early 20th century it became a bigger deal and then I suppose the marketing gurus took over. But if kid think milk comes from a carton and money comes out of a wall they are just going to think Halloween is all about lollies.

I do Halloween every year in my street...and I don't do it for me as I have to spend money on lollies

I use the same items every year so it's only lollies I pay for.

But the littlies (3 to about 10 years old) in my street get all dressed up and if I did not do somehting...it would be one less house they could go to..and they come with their mums and dads...and they are all VERY well behaved...

And then there's their faces and the costumes they wear to cute to miss

MAte you should check the US out leading in to Halloween - they have shops twice as big as your local surf shop dedicated to halloween gear, Im in new york (6th avrnue and 26th west street) and across the road theres a huge halloween warehouse.

There are fairs in the country along the interstates in california dedicated to halloween and the pumkins are the size of toyota yaris's You have houses fuly decked out with spooky s**t everywhere. They certainly get into it

Its full on over hear - but I cant stand it in Aus - couple of scabby kids with a mask trying to score lollies - its pretty lame.

Yeah, I know All Hallows Eve, GD (or All Souls Day as I think we called it when I was a kid). Celebrate your relo's that have kicked it and all that stuff. That's fine, no problems there.

But "trick or treat" was never part of that. That's something the yanks invented. And that's fine, they can do that and dress up their houses and all that. I've no problems with them doing that, in fact I'm happy for 'em to do it. What I get narky about is that we started doing it. It's new... it never used to happen until maybe 10-15 years ago. It's an import and I don't think we need it.

Oh and in case you think I'm biased, yes I also hate christmas and I can't remember the last time I bought anyone an easter egg [}:)][}:)]

I am your original Mr Scrooge - hate celebrating **** because it gets celebrated. Since the kids were little they understood that to wish me fathers day would get a retort.

I just thought that the sculptures were pretty damn good.

Went to a pub in Tassie a while back at Lake St Clair. They have some work there which is bloody brilliant - pair of gloves and a drizabone which you would swear were made of leather not blackwood!

Yes I hear you...ask my BF...I """"HHHAAATTTEEE""""
and celebrations that involve commercial crap..

I even went as far as to move from Perth To Broome...way back when
in the Beginning of November well into the heat of the year for a Perthite

Only to get away from the Crap of commercialism that surrounded me.

But for little kids I would stand on my head with a clown suit on singing in the rain if I thought I was not going to break their little hearts and put a smile on their face

I have just coaxed my BF around in to not going over board for Xmas and Birthdays..it took me awhile though

He has always needed about $600 to $1000 spent on him every event outwise he was not happy...and me well a smile and maybe a card would be good

Not going to sound like goodie 2 shoes...but just for me..if I want a useful item I will go and buy it...not wait for a stupid excuse and have to hint my bottom off to get it

Or you can have a gathering for a birthday and get items you either hate or pass on to someone else...

Now if someone bought me and island for a Xmas or birthday ...I would not say no
