I bought a surfboard yesterday; came home to check reviews saw it for 30% off ($340) at a shop just 7km from where I bought mine and now I'm

Mental note: Google stuff before you buy it.

^^^ Yep - bought some boat trailer parts last week online from interstate (nearest boat shop >100kms away)...got postage added to get them delivered. It doubled the price costing more than the fuel cost would have been to pick them up.

Same here, but found out...just in time. Was pricing wheel arch flares for landcruiser. All priced from local shops at the 560 odd mark give or take $5. Found out all manufactured out of Cairns Queensland. So elected to price,by going direct to manufacture
Came back with exactly same price as local but wanted 99 to post to WA
Wife works for Aus post, so had a good idea on what it should cost. Wasnt any 99 dollars I can tell you.

The shop that's selling the board for a whole $340 less also has a 110% Price Guarantee.

I almost thought I might be in luck with my credit cards "Guaranteed Pricing Scheme"; which reimburses you for the difference in price, up to $500, between a covered product you have purchased on your card and the same covered product advertised in a store catalogue.

Maybe I can offer to pay the store the cost of printing some catalogues .

Flysufferer, a good education is not cheap these days.
The good news is though, the more expensive it is, the better you will remember it.

I still get stung every now and then when I can't be bothered looking up prices.
I justify it by saying I'm supporting local industry.

Would be interesting to see if the cheaper location actually had it in stock / could get it at that price.

Google has found me lots of cheaper prices, phone calls have found me lots of shops trying for bait and switch :-(

Last week I was looking to purchase a 17" laptop, went into a store and was quoted lots of $$$$ so went home and found it online for nearly $1200 less (pay and collect at the store)
Guess what..... The SAME store, with the SAME salesman answering the phone when I did an enquiry. The salesman gave me all sorts of BS of why the price difference so I hung up on him. Well done Mr. Harvey.... Not

I bought it somewhere else that price matched and the reduced it by another 5%.

Yes a popular one lately online for buying stuff at same price as overseas - and suddenly it is a 10 day wait......

I always find it more productive to do the research (checking reviews;) part BEFORE the purchase part.

1. Do not ever buy computers from a Hardly Normal store. Ever.

2. Seems to be that every single item in a Hardly Normal store can be purchased cheaper online from their web site.
Use your smart phone, go to site, find online price, choose pay & collect. Do it all while standing in store.

The stupid part is that the online store is based overseas. SO is subject to lower charges and taxes. SO it can be sold cheaper. Not sure it should be $1200 less but that is the argument he uses..Not sure how true it is
