When there's not enough wind for sailing and it's not raining this stops me getting too bored. It all fits on/in the car and takes about 30 minutes to set up/ pack up. Environmentally friendly, I've flown for over two hours on less than a litre of fuel.

Do you carry any VHF radio ? And if so, do you listen out on the area frequency ?

Ah, you must know a bit about this. A VHF radio is required now for even hanggliders if flown within ten miles of an airport with a control tower in the same airspace as GA aircraft use so I stay out of these areas now as I don't carry one. There are some exemptions being made for us now.
The only time I come close to other aircraft is when they come over to see what the hell I am and give each other a friendly wave.

Where are you doing your course? I've been up there a couple of times with the HG and there is some great flying sites at Gero and the local pilots are very friendly and love to help out newbies, definitely take your glider.
Just food for thought, the largest gathering of HGs during the year is at Shellys Beach at Albany from Xmas onwards for two weeks. If I was driving over I'd spend a week there then keep going to Marges for the wavesailing and up to Gero.

I've never heard of a tandem powered flight with a harness like mine, that is the realm of trikes. You wouldn't want to be a light person with a powered harness on a tandem glider, you won't be able to turn it. I fly mine with a Moyes Sonic 190vg and I'm 90 kgs and there is not much power to spare, 125 kgs wouldn't get off the ground in one no matter what size the wing, they're only a 120 cc gokart engine that puts out a massive 14 hp.

I'm based in Rockingham, about 50 km south of perth.
This link siteguide.org.au/siteguidemap.html pretty much gives all the main sites in Oz and all you need to know about wind directions. For Gero the main ones would be Waszza's knob, Mt. Rennie, City views and Harrocks beach. 15 knts + is ideal for ridge soaring or dune gooning and Gero has most directions covered with some good novice hills.
Yeah, I've got a few weeks before I can fly to, broke my damn leg yesterday wavesailing.

Guys I came across your post and was wondering about this HG course in September you mention. I'd like to get back in the hanggliding, but should really do a course again. I'm based in WA. Any info you have would be great.

Your best bet would be to give Mike Duffy from Leading edge hanggliding centre a call on o4o2 o2oo98 who is from Perth and top guy. He has given me a ton of good advice during and after my course, I'm sure he'd be happy to get you flying again. The course Marty is doing is in Vic, you may get away with just doing a check flight and joining the HGFA.
There is a good chance there will be people flying at south Cott tomorrow if it's not too wet, may go for a look myself,
