The facts and figures about Perth give you no impression of this easy, gracious city.

Good to see a video of life over there.

I was over there a around three years ago and liked it there. Very quiet and easy going compared to Sydney. I liked the arcade that is set up like an medieval English street. Very quaint.

One issue we had was buying fresh fish. We couldn't find anywhere to buy whole fresh fish or other seafood. The fish shops seem only to sell fillets in plastic packets. The other issue was paying about $15 for a glass of beer in a pub

You can buy whole fresh fish from plenty of places over here...
But it will make your $15 glass of beer look like a bargain.

Hey what tha?

Every Woolies and Coles, or if you want decent stuff a number of fish markets in Freo, City centre and others.

Beer prices - I'm hearin ya.
Not everyone is a FIFO who wants to bust out $200 on a night in the pub cos he only gets one night a month off. That is the WA problem...

Unless you join a sport club... sailing, fishing club and then it is cheap beer and safe environment. My club is $ 5 a pint and ocean view from the club house!

$5 a pint sounds cheap.

When we were over in Perth a few years ago we were staying at a big hotel in the CBD. I've forgotten the name but it was quite upmarket, the Duxford or something like that.

The funny thing is this place served the cheapest beer around. It was something like $10 or $11 a pint. The smaller pubs around were selling beer for about $15 a pint.

This was coming from NSW where you could buy a schooner of beer for about $3.50 at the local RSL club. Unfortunately beer is becoming more expensive over here too. Its not unusual to have to pay $6 for a schooner which is a bit expensive.

Yeah, Marmion? With the rather permanent looking sign out the front saying 'Membership Closed Until Further Notice' (or something like that)?

I don't know where you guys are drinking but $15 sounds like a bit of an exaggeration. It's generally between $10 and $12 for a pint in most of the bars I go to.

Geebuz, where do you people drink? Claremont?
I go for a beer in the city every so often and can't remember ever paying over $10 for a pint. Even Heinies are under $10
But i don't got to the Brisbane or places like that.
Same goes down at Rockingham.
$15 pint would want to come with a free wristie

Looks like a way to beat inflation is to buy beer. Buy enough and you can retire.

Nice vid Greenpat, it was fascinating to see what times were like when my dad was a 'lil toddler and mum a few years later. Also nice to see a lot of those buildings are actually still standing, not all of them have been knocked over and replaced with shiny glass towers.

And +1 for the homebrew, at around 50 cents a pint you can't go wrong, even better value for money if you drink it on the beach with sand between your toes
