This carp is pretty much the other Gold Fish people keep at family fish tank, feed every day and take care.
Sad, sad killing for enjoyment

So many die due to hunger but we westerner 'civilization' just have a fun with wasting valuable food source.
Next 'funny' stuff could be riding you 4WD quad on matured wheat fields.

Burning forest for fun ?

Killing whales for folklore? ( that is happen already)

Get over yourself princess, your not that important than anyone gives a toss what you think.

It's a plague of feral fish destroying a natural ecosystem.

Being half arsedly destroyed by equally feral humans.

So what? It's funny as, that's what!

Which frames did you find particularly funny in the video?

At 3:34 this guy says "unleash the dream catcher" in a funny voice and then pulls a strange face when introducing his friend wearing lots of nets.... I didn't think that was very funny.

Unfortunately, that's how it all started, then released (deliberately, or accidentally) into a sensitive ecosystem & the carp take over, killing the native fish by either consuming them, or creating an ecosystem of their own that is uninhabitable to other species. It's good to see the Murray River is reverting back to its natural state in many areas.

I'm not a fan of carp (or rabbits, foxes, cane-toads...basically any 'introduced' species), but I also don't condone cruelty, which is what this is.

Good point - carp are very edible (after spending time in a holding tank & the mud is out of their system), unfortunately our government has put ridiculous constraints on commercial fishers that have tried to market them that it's not a viable business option.

What would be REALLY funny is if one of those nongs impaled themselves or even better still if one of them managed to impale the other and it was caught on video. Yes that would be really funny.

How was your latest copy of Zoo magazine Kitedevil? Did you get a big fat when it arrived ?

Macro you got this one waaaaay wrong mate.

These are asian carp and they are invading southern US waterways and shutting them down. Totally. People can't swim, boat, kayak, or do anything as they're getting black eyes, teeth knocked out, stitches, etc.

They are obviously decimating all other species.

It is such a serious problem that authorities are netting, electroshocking, dynamiting, and poisoning the waters in an enormous, expensive, and harmful (to other wildlife) war on these fish.

Also they're not good eating, greasy and bony.

p.s.

victorian maltese/greek/italian carp recipe

let carp swim in bath with clean fresh water for 4 days

add lemon juice, herbs and seasoning to the carp

wrap the carp and a house brick in tinfoil

place in pre heated low temp oven for 2 hours to slow cook

remove from oven and let sit for 30mins, unwrap, throw away carp and serve the brick

enjoy

I thought this was a water sports forum? This is funny for too many reasons, if I have to tell you what they are you need to cheer up a bit!

What's gets me is the woaa is the fish bullsheet. Really? Ever heard of mixo in rabbits, 44gallon mouse traps that drown thousands of mice at a time?

Now how about all the soft plastic lures that get bitten off thousands of native fish that later cant shiit them out and die a horrible death so little jimmy and his dad can have a harmless little fish off the wharf boat etc?

So many things are preventable, go,prevent them, but when it's too late, why not just watch the evolution of ways to deal with the resultant chaos.

Zoo magazine? I fail to see wtf your on about there.

Cheer up you lot it's a bunch of ridiculous costumes, guys getting smacked in the nuts, trying to catch fish and doing bizarre stuff behind a boat! What's not to like?

Too many sad negative people around here, go get a friggin wave and loosen up

Actually did eat carp and is delicious when well made
Although bony, agree, that make you only eat slowly and carefully.
In fact is wasn't fast food nether but highly celebrated meal.
Carp is popular in Europe culture too.
Due to shrinking ocean fisheries future lie in aqua farming and people need to learn to eat fresh water fish not only tuna and dolphins.
Anyway with such unemployment in US and carp abundance I can't see any reason why Yankees couldn't catch, process and export in cans to Asian and European markets.
In canned food bones are not a problem also.

There are shutting down big Heinz ketchup factory in Victoria.
Why not switch production to carp in tomato souse and send back to China ?
Two problems solved - with tomato and unwanted fish then extra cash to purchase their $2 junk.
Actually I remember even talking about such ideas with some big fish processing executives one day.
They enlighten me that any canned fish food must be imported from Malaysia or Indonesia and they don't bother with production here.

i don't think australia wants carp at all as they eat young native fish and dirty the water (particularly in the slow moving gippsland fresh rivers) . eurocarp are like a blend of cockroaches & rabbits, amazing survivors and outnumber everything. when i was young and dumber, i caught a milk crate full of carp at a local dam, rode more than an hour home with them in the milk crate on my bike (no water in crate) to put them in a swimming pool, and when i arrived they were still alive and survived

they've been known to survive in salty water and known to wiggle their way back into water if left within 10 metres from the waters edge

if there was a way to separate the existing carp in large quantities from our natural rivers, and send to china, i'm all for it, but......

maybe the gov can pay fisherman to catch and bag them, ready to send to national foods maybe we're already eating them when we order barra at a restaurant? Ala deep sea perch?

I used to live in the Balkans, they seem to love carp out there. I had curried, boiled, roasted, fried, deep fried, really deep fried, bbq, toasted, microwaved and burnt carp, no matter how it was cooked unless its been left in running fresh water it will taste like mud.

We caught some carp fingerlings in a shrimp net a few years ago, and due to local laws weren't to put them back in the water, so threw them in a bucket (no water). My niece spotted them a few hours later, dried & crispy (35+deg day) and put some water in with them...15 mins later most were swimming around in the bucket! I've caught them and left them on the side of the bank for hours (when I was a kid), and looked closely only to see their gills move! Very resilient pest.

Friends in the Wimmera (Central-West Vic)invested their money in an 'Electro-fishing' boat and worked carp-infested waters for cray-bait and later set up several large cool-rooms, live tanks, boxing/wrapping machinery etc. when they secured large contracts (to Asia) to supply carp. They were out-priced within the first 2 years with amounting Gov't charges & ridiculous health regs that they couldn't afford. Same with local yabbie farmers - most shut down due to running costs.

Unless your farming mainstream produce - you have no hope of expanding a niche business in this state (country).

Close. Ever see basa fillets in the supermarket? Asian catfish:

Whereas nile perch is similar to our barra:
