I would like to fit a Fishfinder / Depth sounder to a Yamaha VXR 1800. The idea is to detect the edge of Outer Reefs for the purpose of fishing. Has anyone done this ? What type / make of electronic and what speed does it sound correctly ?
heaps of people fit sounders to jet skis. there are dedicated pwc fishing forums, and a sub forum for pwc fishing on ausfish.
I would mount the tdcr in hull (in epoxy) and towards the back. having a short waterline length if you mount it too far forward it will bounce out of the water all the time. As for speed, it depends on how calm it is. if it is mirror flat there is no reason why it wont work at very high speeds, just has to be in the water. I would imagine you should get a good return to at least 10 knots in any weather, and 20+ knots when it's not too rough.
I was 30km's offshore last month, there was a guy on a jet ski out there fishing![]()
How much fuel can these things carry?
Friggin mad if you ask me.
It takes 40 mins to get there, comfortably on a 6 mtr boat,
Did a return trip mths ago , took over 3 hours to get back!
Bugger that on a jet ski.
Take care BobFord !
Cheers myusernam , good contact and info. Cassa, a range of 100 nm is typical for a JS. However, you'd need to be sure of smooth going ! My PWC is launched off of a yacht. Thanks Guys, Bob

probably takes the jet ski 30mins regardless of the weather, just a bit more airborne, unless you got a big catch on board ![]()
Auditors at PWC don't have free time to fish.
Partners would however they would all have boats
